leak repair

It finally happened!! My first major problem with our 2007 Mountaineer. When we bought it in 2011, there was a tear in the rubber on top of the living room slide. I put a tube of the right type of caulk inside and on top of the tear. It seemed to fix it in that no water was running down inside the cabinet like it was. We are in Mississippi and had two heavy rains. It leaked inside the cabinets again. I looked on top the slide and had a soft spot about 18 inches in diameter. I had a sheet of 1/8 aluminum that covered the spot with 6 inches over. I screwed it down over the soft spot and covered the whole sheet with eternabond tape. My question is:

Would you consider this a permanent fix or do I need to do more?

If I need more, what would it be?

Did you find the actual leak? If not, no, you're not done. Putting a bandaid on a soft spot doesn't fix the problem. If you did locate the leak, and it is permanently repaired, then maybe that repair might work for a while, but you do want that area to finally dry out completely and then a plan for a good repair can be decided on. It might be a good idea to get some input from a good RV repair person.

A permanent repair would have been eternabond rubber roof tape over the original tear. I would consider adesive and a rubber membrane patch.
