so going thru new rv today. i know that i will be putting on G614's this week but was kind of surprised when i dropped the spare to see that it was just a plain old white rim with really no marking on it except for 3750. are folks running the orig 80" rims as a spare even
though they are running new G614's as their main tire? i would of figured that if the main rims were rated to 110# that the spare would be to.

That load capacity of 3750# is all you need. It will take what ever air pressure is needed to get to 3750#.

so adding G614 as spare at 100psi is ok? confused since the rim is not mark with a psi but the 3750 axle weight is listed.

I have a 614 on mine. Been on there a couple of years with no problems.

Considering the price of a G614, I chose not to replace my spare. I figure (rightly or wrongly) that the spare will suffice until I can get the good tire repaired or replaced. Just the thought of having a $400 tire hanging underneath the Montana, maybe to never be used, doesn't make a lot of sense (cents) to me. Of course, I'm not full-timing, and most of my trips are no more than 2-300 miles.

I replaced that spare rim with one to match the other four. I then replaced all five Marathons with G614's. I've checked with Goodyear and was told these tires could have reversed rotation, therefore when a rotation is due, I rotate all five getting equal wear and not letting a perfectly good tire just hang in the spare location.

As others have said, if the wheel is rated for 3750 it'll take 110 psi with no problems.

I've waded into this discussion before representing a seasonal RVers view as opposed to full timers. I'm with sambam ... having a high dollar tire hanging in back that may never see the road just makes no sense to me. Larry has an option in using the spare during a tire rotation on the RV ... I honestly don't know many if any people that rotate their fiver tires ... most spares are steel wheels not aluminum to further diss the rotation option. I look at a spare as just that ... a "spare" not a long term swap ... about any car or truck spare now days is somewhat lesser in either tire and/or wheel. Why should the fiver spare be looked at any different?

I agree with dieselguy on this one. However, if you have G614s and it makes you feel better to have a G614 as a spare , go for it

It is probably for sure a full time part time thing. If I destroy one somewhere I want to be able to put another on. It may be quite a few miles before I get to a place that either stocks them or can order one and I'll be able to stay in town long enough to have it arrive.

I had all five replaced when I bought the unit. I got one heck of a deal from the dealer and couldn't pass it up so all five went on. One thing I did notice however is that spare is a Marathon! If you have a problem with your 614s and have to put on the spare I would not run it very long or far. I just do not trust those things even though some have run them and are still running them since they picked up their units at the dealer. I just don't trust the "China Bombs"!

Agree completely. Your rig would look strange with one white wheel on it for certain. On the other hand, keeping the spare to be a useable one means changing it out every five years. Don't need to put a new tire on, a decent used LT will work fine as a spare and they cost under $100 for good insurance. Just be sure to check the born-on date.

When I had the G614's put on my monty I added one for a spare. I also added a matching wheel. The reason was as they were balancing the tire the rim was bent. ( I mean bent bad ) Warranty replaced, they gave me credit on cost toward the cost of matching wheel. The white spare wheels are very cheap made, probably china made also. Feel better having all matching but is matter of choice. To each his own, and to all that have different usage. Being full time I want to be able to continue on down the road if a problem arises until I can secure another tire without the worry of a china bomb on it.

thanks all. got it 3750 rated should handle G614 tire. will most likely leave it as is for now and maybe get a 5th G614 down the road.

If I did not travel far I would not have a spare 614. However if you travel a lot like me you want one. I don't want to have a flat or tire go bad and have to take the time to find another 614 and most likely pay a premium for it.

for now i am going to leave the spare as is since we will be on a perm site this summer again in southern Colorado.

Put a Commercial TA in the spare slot. Same size as 614 at less than half the cost. Just saying!!!!

When I replaced the Marathon's with Duravis R250, I left the Marathon spare in place. I'm with the thought it is a spare, designed to get me to some place for a repair or replacement.

We travel about 8 months a year, but actual miles are only about 5k or so.

On paper the Marathon is rated to carry more weight than my Duravis R250 tires, but we know the facts on that point.
