Pull Valves mismarked?

Hi Everyone:

Newbie here. We are the proud owners of a 2015 Big Sky 379RL. We are loving it so far! I am having some confusion with the pull valves on my rig. It seems like the valves in the convenience center are reversed. The one that is marked as the black valve seems to be the gray and the gray seems to be the black. Is there some method I can use to confirm this? I was thinking of pulling the valve and then run the tank flush and see which one it comes out of?

Any advice or help would be very much appreciated!

Regards,

Steve

That will work, or put a clear elbow on the end of the discharge and run water in the bathroom sink or shower. That should drain to the grey tank.

Hi Steve, welcome to the forum. Are your tanks empty? If so you can hook water to the unit and turn the sink on in the bath. Then open the valve marked grey water, wait for the water... If it don't show up close the valve and open the other one.. good luck.

The clear elbow will be useful down the line so that you know when the black tank flush has done it's job.

Sounds like the newbie was the one that put the cable assemblies into the holes of the convenience center. I would open the flush valve on the toilet, pour in a bottle of red food dye, and see which tank pull results in red out. If you haven't yet taken off the wall that covers the side of the center...time to check behind there for loose connections on the pex and you might just be able to see which cable goes where. John

Hi Everyone:

Thank you all so much for the great advice! I am going to install a clear elbow on the line so I can see what is going on. Then I am going to pull the galley gray valve and see how it drains and then run the water in the kitchen sink with the valve open to confirm the Galley tank. Next I will pull the gray valve for the bathroom and see what happens and then run the shower with the valve open to confirm that is the correct valve. Last will be the black. After it is drained I will connect the tank flush and confirm the valve is correct. I also plan to pull the panel on the convenience center to see if I can tell what is where. At this point I am showing 2/3 full on one gray tank, 1/3 full on the second gray tank and E on the black. I plan to add water to black tank before I pull it. Sound like a plan?

Again thank you all so much for the help!

Regards,

Steve

Another thing to be careful of pertains to if you have a washer/dryer. The sticker in the washer prep area might indicate it is plumbed to dump in to the grey water tank.

In our case and many others we found it was actually plumbed in to the galley tank. So if you have or ever install a washer be sure to run it first watching the clear elbow for discharge to determine which tank it actually dumps into.

With a clear elbow or clear straight extension you will definitely know right away by the color of the water which one is draining, assuming you have been doing the normal personal business in the Monte.

I normally do the reverse of what you are suggesting. I guess you're ok just for testing, but when camping, I always do the black tank first, then the grey tanks.

I have found that on most units the Black water valve is always on the left side or under the grey valve. ether in the convenience center or under the unit like on the travel trailers. which side is marked the black on yours?

Hi Everyone:

First I would again like to thank everyone for your help! What an amazing and helpful group! I put on a clear elbow and pulled the Galley tank and all was well. Next I pulled the tank marked "Gray Tank" in the convenience center and low and behold it was the black tank! I am going to try and swap the stickers. Again, thank you all so much for your help and guidance. I will for sure become a regular on this forum!!

Best regards,

Steve

Many of us do as Tom stated by dumping the black tank first then the galley tank and then the final shower/bathroom sink/s tank. I use the black tank flush several times after dumping the black tank while flushing it by closing the valve and letting the black tank fill part-way then open the dump valve, dump the flushed water and repeat again. I then dump the galley tank with the soapy dish water to clean the hose and them dump the shower/bathroom tank to gush/flush the hose even more and cleaning it even better.

Yes do the food color test so you can determine exactly which tank is which tank . The tanks on this 13 3402 were not labeled correctly Nro were the sat and cable inlets.

FYI my valves were mislabeled! I learned the hard way! Lol. I also like others put a "blade gate valve" between the RV and sewer hose. This probides one more level of protection against leaking valves! It only takes "one" incident of removing sewer cap and finding out the sewer pipe, filled up with material from a leaking valve! Have fun and welcome to MOC!
