Plugin To Monitor Your Watt Usage From Pole

Okay you brilliant minds, I need your help. A few months ago someone posted a link to a little gadget you plugin at the electric pole that was a wattage meter, that showed you how many watts you've used while you were there. You see we are staying at a place where four rvs share one meter. Rather than guess that we owe the most, I'd like to actually know what we're using and pay accordingly.

I found this one but it only works for 30 watt, but we use a 50 watt plug.

I spent two hours yesterday trying to find the link on the forum that showed a link to one on Amazon, and I can't find it. If anyone knows of it, or is using something they love, please share. I'm tired of guessing our bills.

Thank you for your help!

It might take a bit of construction to make such a device. I would get one of these- https://www.amazon.com/Electric-Mete...olt+watt+meter

One of these- https://www.amazon.com/Watertight-En...JDRBY2RKB83SMJ

Two of these- https://www.amazon.com/EKM-Metering-...R0YGHGAVS5C285

And you will need the appropriate wiring, plugs (male and female) that will allow this to be connected between the pedestal and your shore cord. The current transformers measure current in a ratio that will work with the recording device, one current transformer for each hotleg. I don't think any park can legally charge for power unless it has each pedestal individually metered. It would be better for them to just increase the rent to cover power usage. If you are familiar with wiring and electrical circuits, this should be easy to make, otherwise you might get someone who is capable to make a device like this.

It will definitely require some engineering to make such a rig work as Bob says, but a homebrew cord could be rigged up as easily as wiring up a spare extension power cord using either of these meters. I think the one I mentioned can be routed to your laptop for readout and reviews.

I think this might be your ticket.

Make sure you read the description. It sounds like you have to buy the meter separate, but they are only about $30 on that site. So all together about $230.

Working with kWh meters for 23 years, I highly recommend the Energy Elite Classic Wireless. I have installed 6 in a local campground. You can find them online for $89.95. Just clamp on the two compact split core current transformers to the two hot wires in your electrical panel in your FW, and power it up. They make different variations of these, but most only come with one CT. Cannot go wrong with this setup.
I made a 50 amp monitor out of a 100 amp meter can, two 50 amp plugs and a digital kWh meter, but was almost $200.00.
