Winegard Crank Up Antenna
One of the aluminum 'fins' on our crank up Winegard antenna was bent up and back by some high winds. It's about to break off. Is the thin metal portion, or 'fins', replaceable and if so where can we obtain the right part(s)?? Thanks, B

I believe you have to replace the head as an assembly.

I think your only choice is a replacement.camping world or other places like that. they would make it to easy to just replace parts

barmar,
If you replace your antenna I recommend you do so with this: The Jack. Several of us have and it is much better than the Winegard and is great for digital TV reception. It is a direct replacement and takes less than 15 minutes to do. Disclaimer: I am in no way associated or affiliated with this product or company.
r,
Jack

jackal 159,
Would like to know if the replacement "JACK" that you show folds up flat on the roof.
It certainly looks like a much heavier duty type antenna.
Thanks,

Kountry Traveler,
It folds nearly flat and gets much better reception (I have included a few photos of mine cranked down on the roof). The bars are on snug to the roof, but the antenna rides a few inches above that.
This year at Quartzsite I used this antenna and was receiving anywhere from 8-15 digital channels from as far away as Phoenix, (100 miles approx. as the crow flies), depending on weather, while others were lucky to get one or two with the Winegard and the folks I talked with were not getting stations from Phoenix they were from Yuma. Even people that had the "Wingman" attachment for the Winegard could not match the reception of the Jack. It made a believer out of me and several others that bought and installed them while there.
If you do some looking around on line, you may be able to find some better prices. The antenna is manufactured by:
KING CONTROLS
11200 Hampshire Avenue South
Bloomington, MN 55438-2453
Phone: (800) 982-9920 Fax: (952) 922-8424
www.kingcontrols.com
When you install it you will have a lot of spare parts because it comes as a complete kit for an install where there is currently no amplified antenna which tells me it could even be used at a stick home. Because our rigs are already set up all that is required is removing the old antenna and unscrewing the coax, attaching a mounting plate to the new antenna, re-attach the coax and remount the antenna and you are done. You still need to place the amplifier switch for you current antenna in the on position when you want to watch over the air TV.

Well shucks, add another "must have, can't do without" to the list. Good info and thanks. Will be searching for best price and bookmarking in browser.

Another great product from King Controls is the Surelock digital signal finder. (Sorry Jack, this one's not named after you)
http://www.kingcontrols.com/surelock...nal_finder.asp
Before you tune your tv you turn the finder on and rotate the antenna till you find the strongest signal and then you turn on the tv and tune it. Takes all the guesswork out of it

jackal 159,
Thanks for your reply and this is what makes this forum so great.
You have made a believer out of me.
We leave Hot Springs Village, Ar. for Clarksville, Tn. to Philadelphia Pa., to Mlps. Mn. to Fargo, ND. to Norfolk, Ne. and then back to HSV, Ar. in mid June and then are going with our travel group "HSV ROAD RUNNERS" to Estes Park, Co. in mid August.
Looks like a "HAVE TO HAVE ONE" item.
Have always had problems in the Philadelphia and Fargo areas for reception so will be interesting to see the difference.
Thank you again for your input & reply.

We had the same problem with our bat wing antenna going from the fall rally west to Rock Island Ill. going 55 mph into 55 to 60 mph gusts. got to Rock Island and front blade was folded up. We ordered a replacement head online and it worked just fine. This last fall I found a "Jack" at the surplus store in Elkhart for 34 dollars. It was missing some parts but I got them shipped to me a few days later. The Jack works great. It also has very little wind grabbing ability when down or up. We love it. Now I still have that replacement bat wing in the basement until I find somebody that needs it...
