Unhappy I broke my Monte

Pulling out of storage and trying to get around a motor home with trailer encroaching on my side, I caught the curb side rear corner on the support column. By myself, pulled as far forward as I could before turning, and thought I had cleared. Wrong! Should have got out and looked. Pulled entire corner of rear cap back a foot or more tearing the fiberglass cap in a three places. Repair facility (Coach Specialists of Texas) said they would have to pull the cap off to properly repair the fiberglass inside and out.

Estimate of approx $13k. Fortunately insurance (State Farm) quickly approved the repairs and they will be starting right away. Hope to have it back in 2-3 weeks. Will report afterward on how well they perform. Web search shows they have very good reviews.

Ouch! Most all of us have similar tales of mistakes we have made. Maybe not quite so expensive or so much damage. Good luck with your repairs.

Friends of our did the same thing to their Grand Design! They ended at their dealer who ordered a brand new endcap cause it was cheaper that way thn repairing the one that was damaged.

10 yrs in the same storage slot breeds complacency I guess. The various rigs over the years beside me until this MH have always been smaller and stayed on their side. But no one to blame but myself.

Bummer I feel your pain. Low bridge in up state NY bit my front AC off.
Not all that costly to fix under $4000.00 but that incident dose not look all that good on my resume.

All of us have been there and done that to some degree, mostly not that expensive. Glad you had good insurance.

Campground in Galena, IL last fall. They trimmed the shrubbery back in the spring and over summer, small sprouts shot out covering the 2 inch stub that was cut. Tight spot; I hooked the stub with the left fenderwell and scraped out to the end of the rig. Took it to my local body shop. Had several week wait for parts but they did a great job and rig looks like new once I washed and waxed everything. I would not take something like this to a RV dealer at least in this area because they are worse than used car dealers. Don't know their product and will lie to you at the drop of a hat.

Bill, did nearly the same thing trying to pull into a gas station and caught one of the yellow concrete filled pipes protecting the pumps and the pay station. Didn't loose a rear cap but did some damage to the drivers side of the slide and wheel well. Lesson learned, no more tight turns to get to an open pump when refueling!

Rear cap repair

Did the very same thing last fall on the way to the rally, had an argument with a light post in a parking lot, the light post won tore the cap back about a foot.
And cracked it in three places.
Being the trailer was an 04 the insurance company was going to write the trailer off.No replacement caps available they said.
This spring I took the cap off, repaired the fibreglass from the inside, flipped it over and ground out the bad cracks on the outside, filled the outside with fibreglass and body filler, sanded and painted the complete rear cap.
I was able to repair it including the cost of paint for less than $300
Good luck on your repair.

I do too. Dented a hatch in on the driver's side. Who put that pine tree there?
