Pandora

Boy, I am not sure where to post this. Admin feel free to move it if need be.
My question is using Pandora and an aircard.
How much bandwidth is used when listening to Pandora via the aircard? Can one listen to Pandora when traveling without going over the limits? In my case 20GB.
I like to listen to several of the stations on Pandora. Especially the Oldies and Easy Listening.
Thanks for your input.

Hi Joe,

32Kbps = 4KB/s = 12MB/hour
64Kbps = 8KB/s = 23MB/hour
128Kbps = 16KB/s = 57MB/hour

Let's assume 4 hours at the highest throughput of 57mb per hour. that would equal 228Mb of data usage, and 684mb for 12 hours of use.

That would give you 20000/684 = 29.24 days of streaming radio at 12 hours a day. That's a lot of radio.

A disclaimer: Figures from different sources vary. Some say that streaming radio can be at the data rate of 32-128Kbs and could equate to about 1Mb per minute, or 60Mb per hour. So a 12 hour listening schedule would then be 720Mb. At that rate you would only get about 27-1/2 days at 12 hours a day.

You can "Google" search on a variation of the word for streaming radio data and get some figures. If your air card has the capabilities you may be able to set it, or look at the data already downloaded and time it for an hour.

Happy trails.

Thanks Wayne! Yep that is a lot of listening. I will see what works out. A lot of new vehicles can be hooked up to Pandora. Saves the XM charges if you can use Pandora. Pandora isn't practical in all cases.
It is kind of fun to have it going in the background when you are on the computer. And it's free other than data usage.
