RV Insurance

I am a little concerned about the insurance I carry on our RV. We have GMAC a subsiderary of GMAC Finance who took a federal loan. We have looked at Progressive and their rates are about the same. Should I be concerned with the GM bankrupsy? What insurance do you carry?

Since none of us know (even our great Federal Government), I would just keep an open mind and ear. We just recently (March 16) changed to AON as our agent and they put us with Progressive. I'm very happy with them. They came in cheaper than Explorer RV who we were with for six years. Insurance rates in Texas are normally higher than other states that's why we switched. Have nothing but good words to say for Explorer RV.

We switched all vehicles to Geico recently and are saving quite a bit compared to our former insurer. The trailer coverage is much better for about the same price, guaranteed purchase price replacement for 7 years.

We have Foremost. This last renewal, I researched coverages from GMAC, Progressive, and Foremost. GMAC did not compete well. Progressive and Foremost were a few dollars apart on the same coverages but not enough for me to make a change. Foremost has done what they said they would do when we had a claim.

We have all vehicles, the trailer, and our house insured with California Casualty Insurance Co. Great rates and service. I just wish they would insure motor cycles and quads.

Progressive here. They gave us the best coverage for the price and we went with replacement coverage for 5 years , then purchase price after that if it`s a total loss. GMAC quoted us double the price of Progessive.

We are currently switching insurance as we are going to SD residency. We priced several Co.s and some were better for truck, some better for fifth wheel. We are going with Explorer RV because we do want full-time insurance with liability on the fifth-wheel. The package with $1000 deductible is just under $1200per year. Alot cheaper than CA with better coverage. Good luck on your search.

I wouldn't be concerned about the bankruptcy. We have Progressive for the truck and National Interstate for the Montana. Those were the best rates at the time we signed up back in early 2003. We've never had a claim against either so have no firsthand knowledge of how they are to deal with on that front.

Humm.. Something to think about.. I would pull out of anything related to GM till the dust clears. Same with Chrysler and we turned down a Ford Credit card. That is just me..

GM has no financial interest in GMAC, they were converted to a bank a few months ago. The feds have lent them about 13 billion, so they won't let them go bankrupt. GMAC was owned by Cerberus, the same company that owned Chrysler.
