TV in 2007 3400RL

I posted a picture before of our up-grade TV but finally got around to finishing the project, have the whole TV cabinet for DVD storage now. Attaching some pictures:
Empty Cabinet:

Floor Spacers:

New Subfloor and Cabinet Door:

TV Mounted and Door Part closed:

Project Finished:

Now to make the DVD storage shelves.

This was fun, sorta technical, but fun.

Jim: That's a superb job you have done there, thanks for the pics. I presume that is a 32" tv and how are you going to secure it for travel. I certainly like the swing out feature that opens up all that space behind for storage.

Very nice job. I like the size of the television. What size is it?

It is a 32" Samsung to match the surround sound. The door latches shut for travel, have the same latch that is used on the bedroom TV swingout door. Oh, we have calculaed that we can put 260CD's in the cabinet (in the original DVD holders) so I have room for about 60 more. Igf we got rid of the studio DVD holders I could put that same 260 in one disk storage container, but the DW wants to keep them in their original holder, so do I in fact.

Trust me, I have seen Jim's work and recently his television modifications. It is very nice.

He has a few other mods that he has done that look very nice indeed.

I have a very similar set up with a 32" Toshiba. Where did you find the board upon which the TV is mounted?

Help yourself on the copy, the bottom TV support board (the one that is sandwiched between the floor and the new sub floor) is 3/4 red oak plywood, the board behind the TV is also 3/4 red oak ply. The subfloor is 1/2 red oak ply, the spacers are 3/4 ply and 1/2 ply. If you look at the 1st picture you will see some furniture glides that self-stick. I have these on the bottom and top for the support board to float on.

The piano hinge I used is heavy-duty stainless steel. Total build time about 2 days, figuring it out the past year, build cost about $135.00, all the materials are from Lowes. Note that the TV is bolted to the backboard and also to the bottom support board, which bears all the TV weight. We used just the bottom board with the TV screwed to it for about a year while I planned this upgrade. Also note that all the ply edges have the iron on oak edging for a finished look, no ply edges show.

Hi Jim,

I'm writing this for Michael (DH) who's not a very fast typer, and would like to know exactly how you did this. Our original equipment TV in our 2006 3400 is about to die, and we really like your modifications. However, neither of us is a carpenter, nor very handy, and we may not be able to do the job ourselves, but we are hoping that you have something like plans or instructions so that we could get someone else to do it for us. If you would like to send us a private message, that would be great.

Thanks - and great work, by the way - wish you lived near!

Katja
