New Oak Ceiling Strips

Folks my ceiling strips were coming loose and was I trying to decide how to repair them. I bought oak 1x2's and ripped down to 1/4"x 1.5". Then rounded the sides and clear coated. Then I screwed the strips into the metal rafter with antique brass screws to match the interior. They matched the interior GREAT and now they will not come loose again.

Bobby, Looks great!! What size screws did you use? I would like to do the same thing only maybe using preformed molding since I don't have any carpentry tools.

Looks Great Bobby. Some questions though; when you took the old strips down, how were they fastened to the unit? Did the old strips fasten into the rafter or the ceiling panels? And last, did you have any problem finding the stud with the new brass screws? We have a new unit now, but it won't be new forever. I have seen this problem before on other units ans was wondering about a possible fix. Thanks

Thanks Guys I went to lowes and they had some nice looking 1/4 by 2" molding but I would have had to stain it to match my Oak. But you can get some nice prefab pcs there. All the seams are on a metal truss so I just drilled and countersunk #8/1" screws in the truss. The old strips are air nailed right to the metal truss so I took a putty knife and sliped it under them and they came right down. I tapped the nails up and installed the new strips over them. After I got the pcs ready it only took about an hour to replace all of them even the short pc in the bathroom.
