Around The Campfire
This subject could not fit this picture any better. We were sitting around the campfire one night when this racoon wandered up looking for an easy hand out. We had been cleaning fish near by. This is the only albino racoon I have seen. It was a real treat.

You need to send that pic into Birds & Blooms so that they can display it in their magazine. That is a really neat sighting. Must have been exciting. I have seen albino hummingbirds before, but never an albino racoon.

Saw an albino squirrel many years ago in Brevard, NC, but never an albino racoon. There is a first time for everything!

That is a neat picture. Has anyone seen the solid black squirrels in Omaha, NB? I was totally surprised to see one while visiting my sis there.

Terrific photo--thanks for sharing. A first for us too. What a sight! Agree with Kathi!
As to the black squirrels--they suddenly appeared and stayed for about two years in Lewisburg PA in the late 60's. Word was they had come south from Canada to avoid a harsh winter--and the massive oak grove at the university was a big draw. We always wondered if they sent advance scouts and how they travelled all that distance. The bio dept did a study of their interaction with the resident gray squirrels--not always a happy adjustment. They disappeared as suddenly as they came. Have not heard of their return.
Mother Nature is full of surprises.

Very neat photograph. I love Raccoons; we even raised one and had another baby for a short time. I still get a kick out of it like a little kid when they come up to the campfire for treats. Although I have never seen an albino one either. Thank you for sharing. I have to make sure I show our daughter today when she gets home. She and I were the primary care givers to our "Ricky."
I have seen black squirrels before. We saw them in British Columbia. I remember seeing them when I was a little girl in Detroit where my grandma lived. Of course that was a gazillion years ago.

Could this be a POLECAT with a very wide stripe? Very unusual. Good shooting.
