It’s the Deer, dear!
I have been making a little fun of the many pickup trucks with brush guards on them around Boerne, Texas.
Well, it turns out that 4 legged hairy creatures play a role in this ‘Armoring up’ of trucks. If you stop 5 people on the street and poll them on animal to vehicle encounters, 2 and possibly 3 of the polled, will confess to being hit, or hitting the unfortunate creatures.
We were out in the hills looking at homes and land, in one subdivision we saw water and feed containers set out for Deer at one house, 10 or so were in that yard, but the Deer are everywhere. I can see a newcomer to this area, set out $50.00 worth of flowers in the yard one evening, then in the morning, coming out on the front porch with a cup of coffee, in their robe and fuzzy slippers, scanning the yard for the missing flowers.
Maybe the brush guard is a must have here, I would hate to buy a $60,000 truck and hit a 600# Deer the next week with it.
$200,000 is a magic number around these parts, don’t know how they came up with it, but it is solid. A 10 year old double wide, on a postage stamp size lot 20 miles from town, will bring $210,000. A new 3 bedroom brick, or one of the beautiful light tan stone ‘Texas Style’ homes, on ½ acre, will cost you $265,000. Right in Boerne, you will pay $450,000 for a 3 bedroom on a building lot. Guess the rule of thumb is to just double the $200K if it’s in the city. There is no slump in the real estate market here, evidently the lenders behaved themselves in this market.
My wife and I investigated the *Mexican eatery that advertised a 10 pound Burrito; Free!, If you could eat it in 30 minutes. It is a monster, and no one has succeeded as of this date. We opted for 2 smaller meals, the disinterested waiter failed to refill the chips, after two requests, and brought the glasses of water late, our beer was not cold either. The meat was seasoned heavily, but overall fairly tasty.
Speaking of heartburn, we did observe a young man complete a similar feat in Amarillo at the **Big Texan, he just sat down and calmly ate the beef roast and all the sides. There are pictures of 10 or so that have completed the gastronomical orgy on the wall by the glass enclosed sample.

ole dude, makes me wish I paid attention in school, instead of playing grab a#& in the back, pulling Becky's pig tails... And, saving more of the money I made. Oh, and the two divorces.

Heah Ozz if you want to settle into the Hill Country you can buy a 2/1 sun porch, garage, pole barn with 6.55 acres in Driftwood for $255K. You will have tons of music, segways, food, etc around you. PM me if you want pictures.

Colleen, we will be coming up soon to look around a bit, I am hoping for a less expensive option. We only need a place for 6 month's, need to down-size as long as we are selling the home up North. Also, I have no idea what it will bring. Like John stated, it's a new ballgame now. We may be there in 3 days, haven't got the tires yet, I will pull off my wheels and drive them the mile to a local tire shop for the remounting. Look foreword to seeing you. I think we will stay around you somewhere; suggestions?

Real estate sure isn't on the downswing down this way either. Bad thing here is unless you get in one of the subdivisions with lots of covenants, you'll have a $200,000 house with a $200 house for a neighbor.

That is a problem, they are dealing with that here, by zoning restrictions.

Ozz, we have always enjoyed lunch at the Peach Tree Kountry Kitchen on Main Street in Boerne. It may not be your cup of tea, but we try to stop by there on every trip to the Hill Country.
BTW, we will arrive in Fredericksburg next Sunday. I'm sure we will visit Boerne during the week we are there.

Thanks, that sounds like a place we would like. There is a very nice RV Park we are staying at close to town, and just off I-10. Fiesta Alamo.
