Drivetrain vibration
Thanks for listening, Have 2001 chev 3500 dually 8.1 ext cab alison 53K miles pulling 2001 montana 3280RL mostly empty. A few things in basement and enough things for a week and 900 +/- miles. This vibration developed during the trip on mostly flat roads in florida and is getting progressively worse, but only towing. AT EACH STARTUP around 10 mph the whole truck shakes then goes away until the next startup(traffic light/stop sign etc.). Pulled the trailer electric plug with no change. Can transmission oil condition cause this? No lights on dash show a problem. Change engine oil light just started, but it doesn't know there's Amsoil in the engine. Thats the readers digest version of whats going on. If you've experienced this problem how was it resolved. Again, Thankyou. Earl & Ruth Anne

I agree with Paul, a u-joint or something in the rear end could be making the vibration, this is where I would start checking. There is a lot of energy being transfered from the motor to the wheels at this stage of starting to move a vehicle.

There was a TSB that changed the driveshaft from a 1 piece unit to a 2 piece one. The shudder was a common occurrence in the '01's. Chack with a dealer to see if You have the right driveshaft.
My u-joints developed a squeak, I pulled them apart and found some needle bearings that were embedded into the cap and others that were dust. 60k mi and 2 of the 3 were in pretty bad shape, they weren't going to be around much longer.
Get the driveshaft checked.

What a great bunch and site. Update to vibration. Dealer just called. Alison changed to torque-drive synthetic oil that I took to him, and he has ordered per GM service bulletin the replacement driveshaft assy. to install. They couldn't replicate the vibration without the RV, but the bulletin spells out the problem exactly. I had printed all three MOC resposes and explained the research. This is very good support information when one is trying to explain a problem. The extended service warranty is paying for itself this time. Also, not on the side of the road with the driveshaft somewhere else. Thanks again for now. Earl
