Air Bags

Good Evening All,

I have read/heard from a number of posters talk about installing air bags on the TV, and I am confused about what these devices really are. I have installed air adjustable shocks on some of my past pickup trucks. I did this to raise the rear of the truck so the headlights would still point down the road instead of into the trees when I was carrying a heavy load. Is there any connection here?

rickfox, I have always understood that unless a vehicle is originally setup with air support shocks like you have had, the shock brackets may fail due to the extra constant force they provide. The air bags that we are installing come with brackets that are designed to support the constant weight. I also suspect that they will support more weight than an air shock...

I have air lift air bags on my 05 2500HD and you sure can tell the diference in ride and handling of your tv plus your headlights will stay at the same aim when towing. You only have to have 5 lbs. when not towing and adjust according to your load. You can install air with a tire pump or plug in compressor, you don't need an onboard compressor unles you like gadgets and got the money to do it, thats your preference.

The best thing we ever did was add the air bags. It was a very dramatic improvement in handeling while towing.

I agree...best addition to the tow vehicle was the air bags with compressor. Tried them without the compressor and quickly added it so I could make changes on the fly. Shifting fresh water to black/grey water tanks changes pin weight and with the compressor it is very quick and easy to make a correction.

What kind of price difference would someone be looking at by adding the compressor, including installation? Thanks!

my last vehicle was a 2000 F-150 Lariet pulling a 30' Couger. Had a small problem with kneeling and installed Firestone air assist bags(frame mounted). They stopped the kneeling problem and stablized the pull. I have since upgraded to a 3650rk so I will be getting another truck when I get back from Iraq.
