The piece of wood under our fridge is real wood. If yours isn't, and you are having problems with it holding screws, you should be able to pick up a piece of oak for the door and stain it to the color to match your cabinets. I took a drawer front to a local paint store in town and we were able to match the stain from a product on their shelf.

I would like to try this on ours. Nice idea by the way. How did you actually get the piece of wood off of there? Mine looks like it's been stapled but can't tell if it's been glued.

I kicked it in with my foot. It is only stapled on the inside in 4 places.

Ours was screwed to the outside of the frame below the refrigerator.

I showed my DW your wine rack and the space under the fridge. We are going to make the area storage for baking pans, etc. That was her idea and I agreed. She can't tell ME what to think!!!!

Jack I have a question; does that area under the fridge get heat from the fridge, if so it may not be best for the condition of your wines if you left any good bottles in there for an extended period of time.

I have been monitoring the temperature, with a digital thermometer, under the fridge for the past couple of days now. I have run it both on electric and gas and it does not seem to be any warmer under there than in the rest of the rig. It actually is a little cooler (like in a cabinet that is closed and then you open it). Again, our refrigerator is a Norcold and not a Dometic so your results may differ.
