Companion hitch
I'm looking at buying a used Mountaineer 307RKD. I have an 03 GMC crew cab with a short bed. What I need to know is if anyone is using a companion hitch in a short bed GM? I've been told there is not enough clearance for tight turns, and that an extended pin box is not an option as it would put too much strain on the companion.

I'm not sure about the GMC, but I use one on my PSD. I've never had any problems with the companion, they say not to use one with the sidewinder, but that's all the news that I know about where they say don't.
On my rig I use an extended pin box with a short bed and have had no problems, the only thing is I do have to watch the back of the pin box on sharp unlevel turns, the pin comes pretty close to the pick up frame rails.

Vern,
I talked to someone at B&W, and he said the companion will work with extended pin boxes except the type that change the pivot point, such as the sidewinder. I feel much better knowing this because my truck already had the B&W turnover ball, for goosenecks, installed when I bought it. Thanks for your input.

I have a long bed so I am not much help...but. The trailer doesn't sit directly over the hitch, the tongue sticks out far enough it is behind the hitch. I have never had the trailer get close to the cab even when turning in a tight spot at the campground.
Check it out from every direction and measure like crazy before making the commitment. I wouldn't trade mine for any other hitch.

I read somewhere (I can't tell you where, don't remember) the a third party makes a slider type hitch to fit into the gooseneck hole of the B&W Turnover Ball hitch. So you might want to do some additional research.
