Another tire story........

My son took his pick-up into Mieneke (sic)to have new tires mounted. After fighting with a stuck on tight rim, they finally got the tires mounted. When they put the truck back on its feet, my son thought the tires looked a little soft. He inquired about the pressure and was told that they had filled the Class E's to 40 lbs. He told them that wasn't near enough and was informed by the Owner/Manager that when tires are re-mounted that is all the pressure that is safe to use. When he related this to me I couldn't decide which to do first, laugh or cuss. He left my house with the correct pressure.

My thoughts on this matter is that they had thier compressor set at 40# max. If this is so, they had no business working on a truck.

Bob

Sounds like they need to stick to selling mufflers.

This is exactly the reason LonnieB and I ALWAYS recommend a REPUTABLE tire dealer and not some muffler shop. Go to the shops that handle tires as their main, if not only, product line. Stay away from the corner garages, the Wal*Marts, the Sam's Club, Sears and the list goes on. Only at the REPUTABLE tire shops are you going to find the expertise to help you get what you are paying for.

"E"s at 40 PSI???? What was that owner/manager doing yesterday? Quite possibly he was asking "Do you want Fries with that??"

One day I went to Cox's to buy a sear-sucker-suit, and ended up a Sears.....

I do not understand why people do not go to specialty shops that deal with what they are looking for. I'm not trying to say your son did anything wrong, but going to a good tire shop would have been better. What if some unsuspecting soul drove out with 40 PSI and hooked up to his Montana and drove off for a few hundred miles, if it would make it?

Sometimes the kids are about as knowledgeable as that Owner/Manager. When I adjusted the pressure for him, I noticed that the valve stems had not been changed so he is ok on that note. Bob

Boy Glen ,you hit the nail right on the head. Mieneke dose not sale tires around here that I know of. I am not sure they even know mufflers.

Yes but any reputable tire dealer would also replace the valve stems any time new tires are installed. Even the steel higher pressure valve stems have rubber parts that also deteriorate with age. For safety sake I would keep an eye on them.
