Rich, you can bet they are not building one type of frame for the Montana and a different one for the Mountaineer. So if I can put 250 pounds on the back of my Mountaineer you can on your Montana. After all the Montana is supposed to be a step up from the Mountaineer.

As I have mentioned several times in the past, one of these days Montana will get around to offering a rear 2" hitch receiver as an option. An I bet it will have perhaps a 200 - 250# weight rating.

With the Mission tires, they have increased the tire load capacity to 7000# per axle. The time will also come when they will offer an axle and wheel upgrade to the 7000# per axle rating. This will then allow those who want to pay for the options, to be able to carry more cargo and still be legal with respect to the trailer.

Just my opinion.

I am taking my 5'x8' tag along trailer for a brief tow behind my 3400 this weekend. Tongue weight is 180#. I'll let you know is something unexpected falls off.

In answer to that very question put to Dale MIMF (Lippert) at the GL rally his answer was the the manufacturer sets the specs for the frame/ slides. Etc and Lippert builds to the requested specs. That is of course how it is done in any industry. So there could well be different specs for the Mountaineer and Montana frame . That is a question I intend to find the answer to at the rally..

I had a receiver put on mine at the dealer. He never said anything about any warranty issues but I read a number of them on this forum. Because of that when we traveled 1100 miles to Maryland with 2 bikes on the rack I used a strap that you can crank tight and hooked that to the ladder to give additional support. Everything went well.

I have completed my maiden voyage with no trouble. But didn't really expect any. Tongue weight on the rear hitch was 104#, but I was carrying only my 2 bikes and a few other things in the tag-along. I will post a photo when I get around to it, but am somewhat concerned though that the frame police might get upset.

Total length is 64' 10.5" - max. length for Texas is 65'
