SEWER SMELL W/FANTASTIC FAN

Whenever we run our Fantastic fan (with a window open for drawing air) we get a sewer smell coming from the kitchen sink area. I had this problem once before & checked the vent valve for the sink & found that it was loose. I wrapped the threads with pipe tape & screwed it back on & the problem seemed to be fixed.

We've been down here in Mesa AZ since Thanksgiving & now the smell is back. Monty has not been moved since we got here. Is it possible that the valve itself is bad?? Could I tape shut the opening on the valve to stop the problem?? Could I tape the opening shut to see if the smell stops & then replace the valve if the smell stops.

Are there any other connections I should be checking were the smell could be coming from??

You need the vent open/operating correctly to allow the sink to drain properly (safely). Testing the concept by taping the valve off temporarily sounds like a reasonable troubleshooting technique. It sounds like a bad valve as you say.

Good luck.

Replace the valve! They are notorious for crapping out and letting the stink into the kitchen.

Just a FYI about our smell problem.

Followed the suggestion to change the kitchen vent valve & the problem seems to have gone away. Total cost of new valve was $18.00

Thanks for the help.

Look under the bathroom sink, there could be another one. I had the one in the Kitchen cabinet and the one in the bathroom cabinet fail at the same time.
