External Range Hood Vent

The plastic flapper/door to my range hood vent is gone. I've searched all over the entire internet and have only found the whole assembley for sale. All I need is the door and clearly it's designed to be replaced.

Anybody know where to get one?

Thanks,
Russ

Russ, I'd try an online RV salvage site. Must be one out there. Someone should be by shortly to give better advice?

Hmmm! Who's parked next to you? ------ never mind, that is always a bad idea.

Edited: Oh! And it sounds like you forgot to put the little plastic clips over it on one of your travels maybe?

Boy, I almost always forget that, Wayne (well maybe about 50-50). Then I forget to unlock them, too. Don't even try to tell me you other MOCers haven't done that...

Russ, if you could find the name of the company of the plastic external hood, call them direct, and see if they can just ship one to you?

I'm thinking that with a steel rod, a piece of lexan and a little glue I can make one better than the original.

The plastic crap they put in our RV's is just that. Crap!

I have a rock solid solution for you. There is a guy that manufactures a sheet metal one that will never go AWOL if you forget to secure the tabs before hitting the road.

Here's a link. He charges $20 shipped for one, and has lots of happy customers.

MuddyPaws,
If the entire item is not too expensive why not just get a complete replacement. Then either replace the entire thing or see if you can simply take off the door and put it on. Then just save the rest of the thing for future use or throw it away. Just a thought. Also you might email or PM Nailbender.

Nailbender was the member that got his rig crushed by a tree. He was able to salvage much of the old rig and will make you a deal you can't refuse if he has the part.

KTManiac,

The plastic assembley would cost me $32 with shipping and it might last about 5 years. The handmade sheetmetal one you pointed to is $20 (not really a factor) and will probably last longer than the Montana. Several people have taken them with them when they sold their RV's.

I'm tired of replacing these little plastic pieces of crap do-hickies every time we go out, 6 in the last 2 trips. So longevity is the issue here.

Thanks!

Russ, I just ordered some for the store. Does your vent have the 2 screws you remove and lift the vent up to replace the flapper. If so PM me. Kerry

Kerry, I may need to order the entire replacement vent. Do you have those in stock? What I have measures about 6.5” X13” on the outside flange.

The Jensen vent in my 2955 has the hinges allowing easy replacement of the flapper.

Never knew we had flapper locks. The flapper should last forever. Glad we didn't use the fan much. Duh!

As for the RV salvage place, there's Walt's RV in Fontana California. They have absolutely everything in the world. I got a replacement awning, new still in the box, for $75. They are closed on mondays

The one we have that has the plastic flipper locks is made by "Ventline". I purchased a whole replacement for less than $9.00 at a local RV Parts Store.
