auxiliary tail lights

2012 Mountaineer 295RKD

Need to add some additional tail lights (stop, turn, running) since my bumper mounted bike rack is blocking the view of the OEM lights. The highway patrol notified me of this

I figured lots of folks have added a seperate 4 way trailer light connector for towing doubles, etc. How big of a job is it? When I pull back the black plastic underbelly material is there a junction point I can tie into for the OEM tail lights? thanks all

We added a single LED bar with all of the functions you are wanting. After removing the stock taillights, we simply spliced into the appropriate wires with waterproof connectors and ran them out of the belly.

If you look close, you can see it mounted under our custom made generator carrier.

There is no junction point behind the rear cap that I that I could find when I made a pigtail for my boat trailer on my 2011. Like Michael mentioned, just pop the tail lights and splice as needed, then run the wires down to the belly pan and out to where ever you need them. From about the tail lights on down, the rear cap is wide open inside ... above that point, insulation.

Thanks all! I'll pop the tail lights and drop the wires down as you both have suggested.

I have a Mountaineer too and I installed two led taillights immediately above the factory taillights. All I had to do is dremel out some holes in each taillight assembly to run the wires from one to the other. Need the original taillight to mount the license plate and the license plate bulb. Works great and the led taillights are a SIGNIFICANT improvement over the factory taillights.
