Couch Bed

I read on the old posts about how everyone really likes the air beds. I notice when using ours there is a large space between the couch and the sidewall. Is this normal because with no support under that end of the mattress you could not lay with your head at that end to watch the tv? Am I missing part of the bed?

Maybe after all the chatter about fine Amish craftsman ship this would be an example of fine Amish design.
