just my opinion on these subject.i had a 2500 2003 chevy diesel.just bought the 2011 chey dually ltz diesel.more power and all that stuff.the biggest difference that i really notice is hoocking the fifth wheel to the trailer as far as reaching the handle of the wheel hitch .i am 6 foot tall and reaching over the dualle wheels is next to impossible.so now i have to crawl in the box to reach the handle since the box is 8 foot.any comments or answers on these subject? other then that i love the truck.

Princess Auto little step that fits over wheel and gives you height enough to reach the hitch. I find it good for reaching into the engine compartment also but then I am not 6 ft.Check their online catalog.

I use a 3' step ladder, fold it up and set in bed between wheel fender and hitch, simple and works.

running boards that install infront of the dually fender, best deal goin, gets me in the toolbox as well. I really like the full boards for protection of paint also.

It swivels under the truck bed when not in use but I don't think it would work as well with a dually because on either side I use the top of the tire as the second part to stand on when reaching into the sides of my truck bed. With a dually the outside tire and fender sticks out too far and it may not work as well.

I have seen the running board extensions that goes from the crew cab to the front of the rear fender. I think that would work best and look best but might require you to completely replace any existing running boards if you can't find matching extensions for what's currently there.

drsmart.was going but had a heart atttack the day i was going to start packing up the trailer.everything fine now.just had the new truck amonth before ,so now next year.art n marge thanks for the step .i have the the full running boards from front to back (fiberglass).dont know if the step will work but thanks .i have a step on the fiberglass boards in front of the dually wheel but it is too far away. one foot on the wheel does not feel to safe.mite have to resort to the the step.

When I had the F350, King Ranch, DRW, Long bed, I could reach the handle on the Reese hitch. I did turn the handle upside down so I could close the bed cover. Maybe that's why I could reach it easier.

I too rotated my handle so it would clear the toneau, but I also use the tire method, just a little harder with the 17 inchers than the 16s on the old truck. The fact that GM made the sides of the box about 2 inches higher than the old truck adds to the problem, but I'll live with it for the increased power and the exhaust brake, what a difference.

I have running boards back to the rear fender like Art suggested. Works great for us.

I can reach ours but I can’t unhook anything without using a step stool. I keep it handy and just simply use it to reach into the tool box or work on the hitch when un-hooking etc… The handle may get in the way as like Waynem mentioned but I use a bunji cord and hook the handle and pull it to one side which allows it to clear the cover when covering the hitch.

thor. Would it possible to attach an extension to the handle that would be semipermanent using tie wraps? Something long enough to grab but not too long that it would hit the wall of the truck bed. Or if you just need to pull the handle to open the receiver jaws, could you make something with a loop to snag the handle and pull open or am I on the wrong track?

The description says "wraps around tire." Looking at the picture, it mught "sit" on top of the tire, but do not see how its construction would allow "wrapping." Anyone have one of these?

I haven't got this one but what you do is set this unit where the "U" shape goes over and down around the wheel or tire. It just fits over the tire and part-way down on the tire. You then step onto the step and it anchors itself or sets on the tire.
I have purchased a flipout step you connect to the bottom side of the truck bed. I have not put it on yet but hope to have it done this winter sometime. You flip it out with your foot and step on it with one foot and are able to reach any handles on the hitch you need to. I'm 5'11" and I've used one similar on a friends TV and it works great. I ordered it from JC Whitney and it wasn't anymore than $25 if I remember correctly.
