Wood Stain ?

need help?
What is the stain that was used in a 2005 3400rl.
I had asked it a couple of years ago and can't find it and have done a search for the last hour.
Thanks

Use the search term "minwax" and check off "archived posts". There are many responses there to pick from.

Don't know about your 2005, but the stain for our 2007 is: Minwax, Polyshades, Classic Oak Satin, #370. Found it at Walmart in both pint and half pint sizes.

I hvae been is quite a few 3400RL's, which we own, and have seen several different color wood. Ours is close to puritan pine, some were honey oak and one was classic oak. To match the color exactly we mixed several colors, none were exact.

The local paint store guy looked at one of the cabinet doors that I brought in and said that it was a tinted lacquer finish on my '09 (pre-Hickory Edition) and that it would be impossible to get an exact match by using a stain because the open grain of the wood would get darker than what was on the original wood. He said he could match the color of the tight grained portion with a stain, but the open grain would come out a lot darker. He was right.

Minwax "Ipswich Pine #221" was the closest to matching mine, but a little too light. "Cherry #235" was the next best, but too reddish. Neither are exact, and I tried mixing several different colors together with not much success.

I am here in Goshen for the Fall Rally, and there will be a session with Middlebury Hardwood. The only catch is, they are the new supplier for the woodwork in the Hickory Edition, and they evidently did not do the earlier, lighter woodwork.

I will try to find out who did the lighter cabinetry and see if I can get some answers about the previous models.

KTManiac, One solution to your "open grain" issue would be to use a Pre-conditioner on the wood first, that will "seal" the grain and the stain would then flow on all even, if you can indeed find the correct color stain that will then match. good luck.
