Cool pics, a little before my time, but I do remember my father buying gas in New Jersey in the late 60's, early 70's for 29 cents a gallon and getting free glassware with an 8 gallon purchase.

Brings back a lot of memories. My first car, '55 Chevy, in 1962 at 16 so I was right at the end of that era. Most of the places were still those small service station/auto repair shops.
Can't remember gas in the teens, but do remember getting it for 20.9 cents during "gas wars". Rarely bought more than a dollar at a time, sometimes less, but that was good for numerous trips up and down the main drag (of small town Texas).

Cool pictures! I saw a couple '53 Fords. I remember filling mine for $3.00 several times. Last time I filled before we left the swamps I pumped $35.00 and I had over 1/4 tank when I started.

Isn't it strange I can remember all that stuff, but not what I had for lunch yesterday?

I remember paying for gas with the change in my pocket when I could get it for 25 cents a gallon at the Road Runner gas station here in Texas. Three or four dollars of change in my gas hog of a 61 T-bird and I was good for all night...lol lol

I remember grumbling about 25 cents per gallon as well as gas rationing in 1973.
I also remember working as a "gas jockey" (no fancy uniforms) when I was in college.

Mike thanks for the memories. We all knew which car was the best but we argued about which gasoline was the best.

When we first got out of college my wife and I each worked 60 miles from home in opposite directions. Gas was cheap and we had so many glasses and steak knives that after we gave as many away as relatives and neighbors would take we started using them and tossing them instead of washing them.

Ah, memories! In '68 I paid $.20 a gallon for high test, and $.20 for a pack of Marlboros. Then when I got home to FLA in '72 it jumped to $.35! As for Marlboros, I gave them up at $.50...who could afford $5 a carton? Too bad I couldn't shake the gas habit...

Good post Mike, it does bring back a lot of memories. Well kind of, a lot of them pics were way before my time.....lol Well not really, I worked at several gas stations in my youth and remember pumping at 19 cents a gal. Times sure have changed haven't they?
