Hydraulic Brakes

Anyone had hydraulic disc brakes put on their 5th wheel? Improves stopping ability by over 50%? What's the real word?

Thanks

If you do a search Under disc brakes I think you will find some good information. I recall reading some posts on this subject.

Had them installed four years ago. About a half mile from Mor/Ryde a woman in a red car pulled out in front of us, saw us and froze. I was sure we were going right thru her. Stopped with a couple of feet to spare. Never had a product prove it's self on the way home before. Not sure about 50%, but it makes a big difference.

I installed them on my heavy SOB. it really makes a difference. I never could smoke the tires on either fifth wheel, and the trailer stays behind me in a panic stop

I installed hydraulic brakes in November. Pulled it from Illinois to Florida and back. I can not believe how much better I can stop the trailer. I would say very close to 50% improvement. I'll never pull another one without them. I now feel that I at least have a chance if something pulls out in front of me.

Yep, once you've pulled a heavy trailer with Disc Brakes, you'll new go back to one with Drums!

When you have them you will find the trailer stops the truck.

Had disc brakes installed in Nov '15. no comparison. Ford controller a little slow on response to activate but still better than drum system. And I can easily lock'em up if I set controller high enough. Set mine at 5.5 so they don't lock up. Well worth the $$$.

I too am interested in converting to disc brakes...can anyone who's done it share what brand they went with and what drove their decision? What about cost and the best place to buy?
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

You can get a Titan system for $1800 - $2000 parts only as a DIY or installed approx $2500 to $3000, or you can go to Mor/ryde and get the complete install for approx $3000. Installation prices vary slightly from rig to rig.

We have Mor/ryde install our in Elkhart IN. I think the cost was about $3000 but not sure because we had I/S suspension installed as a package deal..

We had the Kodiac Disc Brakes put on when we got the MorRyde Independent Suspension installed at 2015 Fall Rally and as I remember it was $5,800 for both. Two good upgrades. So far we think our upgrades have kept us at or better than Brand New, and know we are saving money by upgrading and not trading.

Went with Kodiak brakes from E-trailer and with Demco hydraulic lines. Installed a Actulink Actuator (ACT 1600)from Amazon for under $1,500. Did all the work myself. Installed the line under the underbelly enclosure, instead of running the lines along the frame.

Installed Kodiak brakes with Titan controller last April - did it myself with parts from etrailer for $1850. I agree with the 50% braking improvement and will say again this is the best safety improvement you can make to any trailer!

I had them put on my 07 Montana in Dec of 12. I also went with the IS by MorRyde because of the 40% added torque. I felt the existing suspension (spring hangers and springs) would not handle that additional torque. I have not been sorry. Safe travels.
