Trip planning to S.C.
Hi all. I am in the planning stages of our trip to Myrtle Beach this summer. We are leaving from Connecticut and plan on staying off I-95 (because of the tolls and traffic)north of Washington DC. We took a trip last year to Williamsburg VA and did I-95 and ended up paying a ton of tolls and got caught in lots of traffic until we were past Washington DC, but I can't remember if there are tolls southbound from there. Anyone familiar with that section of I-95?

There are no tolls from DC to Miami Fla. as of now, but the new Governor of Va is proposing a toll both at the Va. NC. line. I would be totally surprised if he gets it. We travel 95 to Fredricksburg then 17 to 66 to 81 when we go north and miss 95 above DC.

Our Governor Rendell was trying toll Interstate 80 across Pennsylvania but the FEDS put a stop to that.

There have been recent posts about the way around NYC, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington DC. The Interstate 84 to Interstate 81 to Interstate 66 to 17 and arriving at Fredericksburg VA seems to the best way. I have taken that route south many times.

We are staying at Ocean Lakes RV Park. I just hope that the beaches are clean.......and the BP footprint isn't there.

Ocean Lakes is a busy park, there is a lot going on there. We'll be up the road a little at State Park the first week in July.

Yeah it looked like it was busy, but the wife liked being really close to the beach. We will be checking out the area though.....looking at a possible move to the area in a few years (retirement coming up!!!). Too expensive in CT to retire here.

We live in Richmond and I don't recommend staying at any park in the Richmond area. If you are traveling further south before needing to stop I recommend the Yogi Bear in Emporia, it is so so, but has what you need for an overnight. Sorry, but we always end up staying almost a day out when returning home because there are just no good parks in that area.

We have used this for many years...(our starting point is Wappingers Falls, NY);
I-84w, I-87s (toll road), I-287s, I-95s (toll road), I-695 Baltimore Bay Bridge (toll bridge), I-95 stay on east side of Washington DC, continue until too tired to keep going and stay at Smithfield KOA, NC for over-night, then back on I-95s, Rt501...to the beach!
Return trip we go further North and in Washington DC stop off for over-night at Cherry Hill RV park.
Hope this helps....

We are trying not to drive "forever" on day one. We were looking around the Quantico area for a park if there are any in the area. I'd rather not drive 10-12 hours with the kids and dogs in the truck if I can help it! It might drive the DW over the edge, and that would NOT be a good thing at the start of a vacation.
