I make gun related products, scope rings and bases, muzzle breaks by the thousands, ammunition reloading equipment and such. That makes me have one heck of lot better chance of being sued than someone pulling an overweight camper. If you get sued who is going to haft to pay, not you your insurance company. Oh I forgot, I'm so worried about getting sued I don't even carry insurance.

Think you are overweight. All air bags, etc, do is make a overweight truck sit level. They do not make the truck legal.........
This 2500 has a 10,000 GVWR, truck is 1,420 over it GVWR. The bags are purely for ride comfort and to level it out since I have a level kit on my truck. Now my challenge it getting weight moved around to meet the manufacturers GVWR or at least closer.

According to the RAM information on my 2014 4x4 Crewcab Diesel Short bed I have a GVWR of 10,000# and a payload of 2330#. Payload=GVWR-Base weight. Base weight if 7,673#.

So payload is pin weight + pull rite hitch 200# + all the stuff in the bed of the truck + 150# for the driver.
My payload is probably overweight. But I can tow trailer and equipment of 17,160#.

And to make it more complicated your GCWR is 25,300

I know the #s make no sense. my 2014 GMC dually is rated to tow 22,500 lbs with a trailer/truck combo of 30,500 lbs. That leaves me at 8000 lbs for the truck. It weighed more than that from the factory. lol.

I am going to find out tomorrow. Wife and I are leaving for a 2 week + trip and I am going to weigh it at the dump. I am as loaded as much as I could possibly imagine. Fuel of fuel/truck bed full of carefully placed firewood + 2 bins full on top of folded tonnue cover & 2 bins full in back seat/ 2 generators/3 large coolers full of ice and beverages/fridge stocked/fresh water tank full/all waste tanks 1/3 full (with dawn $ calgon to clean in route) / 5 gal def/ 2 -20lb propane tanks etc.

Not expecting to be over weight but very close.

Lets make this simple. GVWR is the most your truck can weigh legally. The tow rating is a suggestion as to what the mfg. thinks you can tow safely.

A DRW hotshot driver towing a trailer that is tagged for the trailer weight and is with-in his truck and trailer GVWR is legal.

A 2500 truck with a GVWR of 10,000lbs and weighs 11,420 is 1,420 lbs over legal weight.

This is not hard. The truck and trailer GVWR is the most either can weigh. Screw all this recommended tow rating, it is just that, recommended.

It's OK, plenty of lawyers out there looking for people involved in accidents with RV quoting they are looking for overweight RV's. Drive overweight, get in an accident, play Russian roulette with the other victim in the accident to see if they will hire a lawyer who will go after everything you own. Not a scare tactic, just a fact.

Obviously you have never had a personal law suit case against you. Because they go after your house and everything you own there is an insurance company that get's involved, it will be the attorney for the company that insures your house because of the liability part... I have been sued so been there done that.

All the time involved, depositions, money, and lost sleep worrying how I will start over if they win and not knowing how much I will have to pay. In my case, they sued my company and then me personally and after many months and many meetings, the person suing me was found to have a minimal case and the lawyers paid them like $10,000 to go away.

I don't know how it would have ended up had they found real fault but I can absolutely promise it is something I don't want to experience again.

I understand worrying to some degree and do realize we live in a lawsuit society. If you really want to get down to it a person just needs to stay at home all of the time to minimize liability. But this idea is not practical.
Not trying yo stir the pot just making comments.

This thread started just for informational purpose's of the challenges pulling a 5th with a 2500. Also this was the first weight check with the trailer well loaded and to see where and what can be adjusted. I'm pretty sure I'm able to make adjustments to dial it in as I've done when I drove big trucks over the road to get with in the limits. Let see some of the others weigh ticket slips.

Don't forget that in California you need an endorsement on your license if your 5er is 10,000-15,000#

Not if you're visiting or passing through, only if you live here.

I guess if you live here you're a worse driver and need closer control than people from other states.

I guess people in Virginia must be pretty good drivers. We can drive any RV with our regular drivers license.

Californians are "Special"
If you tow a 5er over 15,000# you need a "Special" license.
Again, not if you are just passing through or visiting.

Even our gas and diesel is "Special" ergo it costs more. $3.39 for diesel, same for regular.

My #s are it from post #26. I dont have a scale ticket because I had it weighed at the dump.

2014 GMC dually GVW-13025# 30500# combo
2011 3455sa GVW-15560#

Weights at dump- Truck axles alone 13700# 700# over
Entire rig-26600 ok
Camper axles only-13000#

And I stoped at work after the weigh in to fill 3 large coolers with ice. Guessing 300# Probably added 150 more to my truck weght.

This was just the first leg of the trip. Should be ok when we leave since we will burn up alot of the wood weight.

Wow on the price! Here in AZ I just filled up at $2.39 for diesel. That is a BIG difference.

We Californians have our diesel stored in gold lined tanks that's why our crap costs more. So they tell me. This place sucks.
