03 Ram 2500 Suspension
Just bought a 06 3000RK and am wondering if anyone is using a similar tow vehicle as mine. The hitch weight is 2300#s and the suspension is stock. Should I be looking to beef it up a little?

In my opinion, the thing to do is check the amount of sag when you hitch up. If you get too much sag, it adversely affects the steering and throws your headlights high. Either or both create a safety problem for you. If the sag is excessive, then doing some upgrade on your suspension would be in order. Don't buy into this post until you check it out with others. I drive a Ford. Happy RVing....

I'll have to agree with stiles, If you dont have any sag it should be just fine. I've been in ceramic tile 26 years, I know a little bit about loads on a truck. A pair of helper springs cost very little and are easy to install. And if you do a lot of night driving you need to keep them headlights down.

When I hook up Monty the tail end drops about three inches. I do know I need to adjust the headlights because I get flashes from oncoming traffic off and on. Since this happend last year while on R&R it will get done when I come home for good and have time and the proper place to make the adjustments. Eighteen months and counting.
Good luck and tow safe.

I wouldn't readjust the headlights for driving with the rig attached. You'll be sorry you did. It would be better to add air bags or helper springs (we use the air bags) to level out the ride.

Dan and Carol, we have many members towing with essentially the same truck as you. The Cummins will do a solid job for you in my estimation. I agree with the others about rear sag. If yours have it, airbags or additional springs are a solution. If it were me I'd not do anything until I could see if there's a need. You may or may not need the airbags.
Good luck and congratulations on the new Montana!
