Entry Door Latch

Just did our PDI on our 3810MS. I didn't check other units on the lot, but none of the units online appear to have an entry door latch to hold the door open. That seems very odd to me. Is this a factory standard or something the owner has to do? I mentioned it to the dealer to look at while they are fixing the other items identified.

Newer Montanas come with a "friction" hinge on the door which is supposed to keep the door in the open position without a latch. When you get tired of the wind blowing it open/closed or the friction doesn't friction anymore you easily can add a latch.

Is that why the door feels stiff like the hinges needs little oil?

That's correct and mine works great. I like it for now as it works as designed. Will add a latch if it fails.

Entry Door Latch

Good to know. Doing our walk around, there appeared to be no friction at all. Maybe the dealer will install a latch before we pick it up,otherwise, I'll do it. Thanks for the explanation.

The friction hinge is nice, but will not hold if the wind is blowing. I added a latch, but only use it on windy days.

We like the friction hinge till the blows but you do need to use dry lube on it or it gets a bit creaky that mite be all the rain we get in washington but I did put on a latch to for when we need it.

Another way of Montana saving money by eliminating the door latch. Most of you seem to be adding them after awhile. More money in their pocket for selling the door latch. It seems that it is getting more windy no matter where you go anyway and you will need that door latch.

Our 2015 "friction" hinge was a joke, 2 minute job for traditional door latch.

door latch install location?

Does anybody have a pic of the latch you installed showing the location? I am going to add one on my door.

Did you mount the door/bar keeper on the fiberglass body above the rubber molding? or below the rubber on the sheet metal skirt?
Should I worry about hitting studs? or keep drilling the pilot hole into the stud if it is hit?
