skylight shade

Does anyone have any ideas for a curtain or shade to block out the sun on the sky dome over the shower. Lights up the entire bedroom in the early morning. Thanks

This subject has come up several times and a lot of good ideas have been put forward. Try a "search" and see what you find. There are a lot of very inventive folks on here. Many neat modifications have been made.

I just close the sliding doors between the bathroom and bedroom. That takes care of all that annoying light!

Do a search under Shower Window. I started a thread and there are 3 pages of suggestions. All of them are really great......Kathi

We hang our wet towels over the shower area. Naturally the darker they are the better. It doesn't block it all but does help. We have been trying to figure what we could put up there to block it out once and a while as well. We are thinking of getting a darker curtain that goes between the shower area and the bed to see if it will block more of the early morning light.

I haven't noticed the light from the sky dome. But then I have a bad habit of getting up with the chickens. Too many years on the farm I guess. Barbara has commented about it though and we have tried some of the previous suggestions which seem to help.

Take the inside trim dome down and place a pillow case or towel of your favorite color over it and screw it back in place. Acts as a diffuser.

In our rig we discovered after manufacturing a cover ourselves from the windshield reflector material sold in rolls at CW that someone else had already had the idea. CW sells a door window reflector for camper front doors. To our surprise, it also fits perfectly on our shower skylight--and like our version it attaches with velcro. So it serves two purposes--keeps out early morning light and also reflects afternoon sun which can superheat the bedroom area. On last visit to CW these items were found in the sale bin!!

We went to Camping World and bought a rectangular silver padding with velcro and it fit perfectly. Also bought square ones for the bedroom and living area. They also work great during the day to keep the RV cooler when in direct sunlight.

Don't forget the bubble wrap. It works great also.

We put three layers of bubble wrap on ours and it cuts out a lot of heat but a lot of light still gets through. It was easy enough to remove the ten screws and drop the inner dome that I think the towel idea would be an easy and cheap way to cut the light way down. I just roll over and face the other way, myself.

Kevin and Denise:
We found this skylight over the shower stall in our 3400rl model an irritating source of light and radiant heat and contacted our dealer and they found a shade similiar to one that most of us use in our homes. It attaches to the ceiling with 4 screws and is spring retractable. It comes with a latch tab, lacking a better description for it, that holds it in place to block out the radiat heat and the light. You can also unlatch it and let it retract in its housing to let the light in when desired. It works fine for us and looks good whether retracted or extended and latched. We can probably find some information on it if you're interested. Just let us know. Good luck.

I took one of the solar cover you use on the door window installed velcro on both and put it on the sky dome. Seems this would be better insulated or better quality dome due to it is being used in a MONTANA.

WE REMOVED THE INSIDE DOME AND USED KRYLON PLASTIC WHITE FUSEN PAINT AND APPLIED AS MANY COATES OF PAINT AS NEEDED TO CUT DOWN THE UNUANTED LIGHT

I went to a craft store and got some foam board, about 3/8 inch thick, in a 2 x 4 sheet. Also got some wide sticky back foam tape. cut the foam board 1/8 smaller than the shower dome. Layed heavy duty alum foil over the board cut to match. Stuck to insulating foam (like for around air conditioners) rolled over the edge. It fits nicely, cuts out all light. Also made identical to fit other sky lights. Total cost under $10.00
