Model Number Translation

Good morning from Texas everyone. Could anyone please tell me the true meaning of the myrid of Montana model numbers. I can figure out most of the letters; RL, RK, etc but there seems to be a lot of unexplained numbers. For example, have a 2014 343RL. I have been guven at least ten different "opinions" on what the numbers really mean. Does anyone really know?? Finally, what is the main difference between the High Country and other models, is it just a smaller, lighter version or is there more to it. TIA for any information.

High Country is supposed to be the lighter weight Montana. I don't think the numbering system means anything except what it was called when it was in the design and development stage. In other words it's what number they assigned to the original plans on the drawing board. The letters, however, tell you something about the layout.

Our 2007 3400RL was 39'8" and our 2014 BS382RL is 40'1". I was told by the dealer that the numbers have nothing to do with how long a rig is...it's just a model number.

I always thought it was the number of square feet in the floor plan.

They are just numbers with very little meaning any more. At one time they were the overall length, then changed to be the box length, now they're just numbers. But it is a good sales gimick, such as our 36RL SOB, sold to some as a 36' Fifthwheel, which really was 40' 4" OAL.

My 3000RK is a rear kitchen and 35 1/2 ft long. Our last Montana was the 2880 and it was 30' 11" long.

I have the exact rig you do. Have no idea what numbers mean and are meaningless it appears. RL I know is rear living. Specs say 36' something. I measured from front of hitch to rear ladder. 38'.

I wonder if Keystone will have to issue new model numbers to some of our units in the near future. If you have a 3725RL with a ladder on the wrong side blocking your fire escape window, will they just change your model to 3725RL-LWS, or 3725RL-NFE, ("ladder wrong side" or "no fire escape").

SA means side aisle I think. As opposed to the open bath plan with the aisle down the center.

While you are pondering numbers, What does Z71 mean on a Chevy truck?

Sorry to be slow to answer. They are just model numbers as per Mike Mack. As far as length is concerned you can't trust the brochure. The length is the amount of overall measure from front most outside to rear most . For instance, my 3900FB measures 41'11 " from the bulge nose to the ladder. Jim Fischer measured the height of most of us at the national rally and most were 13'4". Correct me if I'm wrong, Jim.

Z71 is the code that Chevy uses for their "offroad suspension package". WEA is the code for the "Z71 appearance package", which is fancy door handles and mirrors and such. SB7 is the code for the "Z71" stickers that you can get on the side of your Z71 equiped truck...
