hensley anyone?
Hi all, newbie here and prospective Montana owner in need of some hitch schooling. I see that the B&W companion gets rave reviews, and this one is on my short list when I push the start button. that aide, I was wondering if any of y'all use a BD3 or BD5 Hensley hitch, and if so how does it perform, and does it eliminate the need for a mor/ryde type pinbox? the TV will most likely be a 2018 Ram SRW 3500 long box. My 2004 Ram short box 3500 has been flawless and just rock solid, but will be test driving GMs as well.
thanks for your inputs

Welcome from Arizona. Test all of the big 3 trucks one never knows what they will find. As for a hitch the B&W seems to be the best even I don't own one. Just from the ratings of users.

We use the Trailersaver BD3 previous to that we used the Reese 16K. The BD3 is expensive and justifying the expense IMO depends on how you plan to use the RV. We are long timers and do many road miles a year. I do not think I would have spent the $$ if we were weekend or low use Rv'ers. The BD 3 is smooth as silk.I am sure others also are but we have the BD3 so I can only comment on what we have.

Thank you I do notice the cost is high, but on the other hand the difference of 2k could be small compared to the overall rv investment.
Do you have a standard pin box?

The 3402 Big Sky has the OEM Mor Ryde hitch.
I would agree with you on the overall investment.
We also added the Mor Ryde IS suspension for a better travel experience.

Still have my Reese 16K I bought for my 2880 in 2002 and now using for my 3000RK. If it isn't perfectly level is real hard to pull pin sometimes.

Welcome to the forum! I wasn't willing to give up my Ram short bed so I have a Pullrite and don't have to worry about any turn I make.

I have the Montana model 3402 same as Richard with the I.S. except i have the Hensley TS-3 hitch which is a one piece in stead of two piece like the BD-3. It doesn't matter if you have the Mor-Ryde hitch on your rv or not on account the Hensley takes out all the chucking and allows your front of the rv to spring up and down so as to take out all the shock. You need a lift of some kind to install the TS-3 where as the BD-3 can be installed by one person if you are fairly stout. Both are excellent hitches. Mine is installed in a 2013 Ram 3500 DRW LB. The TS-3 is on sale for 2795.00 now but i haven't checked the price of the BD-3. I've had mine for over 5 years and i have had no problem what so ever.

We used the Hensley BD3 to tow our Montana 3150 and it is a very smooth ride, you almost forget you are towing (which is not good). We sold our Montana and have a Hensley BD3 for sale...

can not go wrong with any of the "big" names in rv hitches.
best to to buy a hitch with a tow rateing heaver than your rv ever will be. (over kill for safety).

Where are you located and how much? By any chance do you also have the Hensley Ford puck adapter? PM me if you had rather.
Thanks

Hey. Welcome to the forum. I personally would recommend the B&W since I had one one my Ford F-250 when I traded it in. My new 2017 F-350 DRW had the factory 4 point locking system with a Reese hitch. I don’t like the Reese, so may swith back to B& W at some point. Also, if you are test driving TVs, I am sold on my F-350 DRW. Recommend you try all of the the majors before buying. Good luck and welcome.

We have the BD3 and love it. I have never had a problem with it. It is nice looking in the rear view mirror and seeing it at work, and not feeling any of the movement in the Tow Vehicle.
Yes expensive, but you get what you pay for. We love ours.

We have the BD3 TrailerSaver and Highly recommend it. It provides an extremely smooth ride without any chucking. We had the hitch installed in July 2015 and it is trouble free. Our Tow Vehicle is a 2015 Chevrolet 3500 4WD Long Bed.
When driving, I enjoy watching the trailer in my mirror gently float on the hitch air cushions ... until my wife reminds me to watch the road In Front of Me
