Just bought a 3150 montana. Are jacks under the slide out necessary
If you are in one place for 4 months?

They can cause more problems than they solve. If the trailer settles or a tire goes flat, you will torque the slide. Mine are open all the time with no problems.

We are mostly in one place for 4 months in the summer and 5-6 months in the winter and have never (and would never consider) putting jacks under the slide outs. As Jim points out, they were made to stand on their own and putting jacks under them is a way to end up with large repair bills.

If you figure that when installing these they are supposed to touch and therefore NOT truly hold anything up, you can imagine the damage if something goes wrong, like settling or tires going flat. Montanas have monstrous support so I'm not sure I want to use these and chance tweaking the slideouts.
If I were putting a trailer somewhere permanently and tires are removed and the trailer were jacked up with something substantial or something that ensures the height of the trailer will NOT change, then maybe that's the only time. If there's a chance that anything can cause the trailer to drop, then don't use them. There are better ways to prevent shaking of the trailer.

Thanks everybody for the info. I will sell my old jacks. I forgot to mention that I have the 6 auto leveling jack system and love it.

It is really amazing how many of these we sell at Camping World. If someone asks me about them I always try to persuade them NOT to buy them. But, some folks won't listen and have to find out the hard way I suppose.

Not here, either. I'm not sure about the current models but on our 2001, 2003, 2007 Montanas we were told the warranty on the slide mechanisms would be void if it was determined we had used the jacks and bent the mechanism due to a flat tire or other cuase. We've never used them and never will. There is no need.
