Parks near Portland, OR?

Hi all,

We will be staying in the Portland area this summer for my work. There seem to be a few parks in the area, but many of them didn't have spots for monthly rental. This is the park we have picked, but I would appreciate any comments on parks in the area.

http://sandyrv.com/

thanks,
Phil

I will be staying at this park at the end of June on my Oregon tour. It had good reviews on the web and the person I talked to on the phone, while making, reservation seemed friendly.

Thanks. Is anyone familiar with the layout of this park? Any navigation concerns with a 37' fiver and Dodge 3500?

Where will you be working Phil? For example if you're working on the west side of Portland, that would not be a fun commute to work.

I will be working downtown. I already checked out several Parks that are closer but no dice on a monthly site. So I've already factored in a commute. I'm sure it will be better than my current one in Houston.

Phil, I did think of this one:

http://www.pheasantridge.com/about.html#rates

It is a resort which has monthly rates just south of Portland. Have not stayed here yet, but looks very nice and right off I-5.

If you do end up in the Troutdale one, you could also just drive to Gresham and take Max, the rail system, to downtown and back...

Yep, I am also exploring that as an option. I was hoping I could drive the truck for that purpose, instead of renting a car to go all the way into town.

Interesting you mentioned Pheasant Ridge. There was an article touting this park as a 10/10/10 in a recent Good Sam's magazine. As we are planning a trip to Seattle and like to stay around Portland along the way, I decided to make a reservation. Surprise! If you have a dog larger than 40 lbs. you can not stay here (Seahunter - based on your Avatar I bet you are not welcome).

Apparently Terri the GM believes owners of larger dogs don't pick up after them. So to prevent the maintenance guys from encountering dog poop when mowing the lawn, they exclude large dogs.

http://www.campgroundreviews.com/ is always a good site when considering a RV park.

Thanks for the heads up on that Carl, as we are planning our shakedown cruise to Pheasant Ridge probably. It's hard to tell in the picture, but luckily we have the mid-size model on the hounds (whippets), and they are only about 24 pounds each but thanks again for mentioning it.

I contacted Pheasant Ridge today. Their waiting list is about 12 applications deep.

We stayed at Pheasant Ridge a few years ago and it is a nice park. But I believe the only place to walk the dogs is outside the park. Which is not too terrible but would be much nicer to be able to stay in the park. Dennis

There is a park just south of Pheasant Ridge a few miles, Aurora Acres RV Resort. I used to live near there so have never stayed there, but it looks like a nice park, isn't much further than Pheasant Ridge, and is close to I-5. Personally, I would prefer to stay down there and commute to downtown rather than being out east. Either way, it is a long commute though. Max would be a really good alternative to go downtown.

Any suggestions on where to park in Gresham? Or closer? I would like to drive my truck part of the way so I can avoid renting a car.

Hi Phil,

As for park and rides, there are a four right in Gresham, and one in Troutdale. Several in east Portland if you wanted to get closer to town once in a while to do errands.

Just hit the links for "Gresham", "Troutdale", or "Portland" here:

http://trimet.org/parkandride/index.htm

The "Gresham Parking Garage" should be the largest and states there are usually always spots available.

Greg
