First day of long-timing - Montana Owners Club

Finally got on the road today after dropping the GD off at band camp.
First trip over 6 weeks, got our nephew and family staying in the stick house until their house is built. Since it isn't even started yet we have at least 3 months (probably more like 5) to make it to Seattle and back to lower AL.
Can't wait to see Yellowstone again, Glacier NP and more of the other great sights in the western US. May even make it back down to the southwest though Utah, AZ, and TX.
Traveling by the 2-2-2 rule, 200 miles or two o'clock, time to camp. Stay at least 2 days to explore each area.
Isn't RVing the best way to travel!!

Nice rule for traveling. I know we have our limits and usually by the afternoon we want to find a place to camp if on a long trip. Welcome to the forums and if you are coming through our part of the country give is a yell. Love to meet new MOCers.

We have been long timing for over 3 years. Great lifestyle. Just returned from a 2500 mile road trp. Slow down, Take it easy, You have no schedule and you have all the time in the world.

Thanks for the encouragement, it always seemed we could stick to the 2-2-2 plan until we got to the turning around point, then felt compelled to travel faster home. Worried about the sticks and bricks I guess.
Well, no worries there this year, great family taking care if it, and their new home won't be ready for a while.
Might try that 1-1-10 plan, being the rather lazy fellow i am.

You'll soon get over the 2-2-2 rush, rush, rush!

We started with something of that attitude and within 2 or 3 years we were down to a week at a time in one place. Then we'll move up the road another couple of hundred miles or so and spend another week. It really works out well. None of that rush rush rush feeling. We are still just sort of long timers. Usually out only 2 or 3 months at a time.

But we all have to do what works for us. That is the great thing about this whole process. Do what works well for you. And whatever you do...... ENJOY!

Dennis, your real problem is, you have to many freinds !!!!! there is no way you can get from A to B without seeing a few of us, Now come out to the "real west" and see how of us Mossbacks really live!!!! PS I have treats for you-know hoo.....Dave

If you make it to Seattle be sure to stop by the rlwhit campground.
We are 2 hours from Seattle. Can arrive by 2. Stay 2 days or more.

Where are you staying in Seattle? Mary Elizabeth and I left Seattle a week or so ago, we were at Lake Pleasent, Bothell from there we traveled to Glacier NP for four days. You guys have planned a great trip, enjoy and be safe.

If you're around Omaha, NE give us a hollar! If you want to meet a bunch of MOCrs, come on up to the Great Lakes Rally in Michigan(see the threads on Great Lakes Rally) we'll be there along with about 23-25 other rigs! The DW is originally from Alabama so it could be old home week!

Congratulations! Life is good when you are RV'ing.
On the 14th, we finished an 89 day, 4600(+some) trip in the SOB. Depending on where we were going to be depended on the length of time staying. I like the 200 miler figure, but on occasion I have pushed it to 300. On the last trip it was from P'cola to Mayport, Fl, about 350 and that was a drag-me-down.

If you get down around the Houston area, give a holler and see if we are around. DW wants to get back on the road in a month or so.

Well, all good things must end, so now we're home.
It was the best trip yet, we never made it to Seattle though. Looks like another trip to me!
There was just too much we wanted to see in in WA and OR to try to cram them in let alone
the southwest.
7700 miles, 6 Nat. Parks, so many great people to remember. Neither of us could get over how
friendly everyone was in the NW, and they say we southerners have lots of hospitality.
Georgia and I have decided to try to do this every year, if the Lord gives us the way
to save the money each winter.
Just can't describe how much fun we had and the beautiful places we saw. Stayed in Nat. Forest
Service, Nat. Parks, Core of Engineers CGs almost exclusively. Just two commercial parks, one
in Jackson, MS visiting relatives. Though they were both nice, give me the wilderness anytime!
A couple of state parks, and a few City parks that were really nice too.
What with the humidity and living in town all her life G. had never seen the Milky Way or the
"gazillion" stars of the northern night sky. She was impressed.

Oh and by the way, not one problem mechanical for the Monty, if you don't count the driver
cutting a right corner too short and bending the steps (twice). But I can't really blame that
on anyone at Keystone. (Can I?)
