It's in the driveway...Sorta...

Well, everyone, our truck finally arrived and we went to pick up our Monty!

Our first outing was to find a large parking lot, and with the help of a friend from the NHP, we set out cones and practiced turning, backing and getting out of trouble! Spent a few hours doing that, then practiced emergency stops on the freeway, etc.

By the end of the day, I felt pretty confident.

Parked the rig on a side street near our home because the truck and 5th wheel (at 53') was too long to fit in our driveway (we have about 50 mature pine trees in our yard, and while it is pretty, didn't want to break any limbs or, heaven forbid, break anything on the Monty!).

After stocking the Monty with the basics, and realizing we need more basic stuff, we took it to storage and left it for the week. As soon as the weather takes a turn for the better (no overnight lows less than 40 degrees), we'll de-winterize it and take our maiden voyage.

Thanks for all the wonderful info on this forum.

Congrats!! That was a good idea about practicing in the parking lot. (maybe that's what I should do). Dan keeps wanting me to drive and I keep telling him that he's doing fine! We picked up our Monty in Ringgold, GA last September and jumped right on the highway, headed north on I-75 to TN. - Interstate traffic, road construction, mountains, backing in to a space (everyone watching)! Dan did an awesome job! Well, enjoy and I'm sure we'll be hearing from y'all.

Congratulations! I know what it's like to wait, we had ours out from storage this weekend to clean and was the whole thing, what a job, but still left in winterized. I think we're going to take it out for the first time the weekend after Easter, the 21st I think.

Congratulations Michael and Kathy...When we picked up our 3400RL we needed a lot of basics. I have always camped so I knew pretty much what was needed! I thought...I forgot that I now had a trailer the size of a small apartment and there was so much more to stocking it then when I had a 29ft motorhome...LOTS MORE!!! We have had it since last April and I can still find things that need to be put into it. Everytime you go out there is something else that is needed. Just remember there is always a Wally World close by somewhere...Happy RVing. Kathi

Michael and Kathy, Congrats on the new Montana. Each time we see someone post about taking delivery on a new unit it brings back wonderful memories of our anticipation, delivery, and first night sleeping in the Monty. May you enjoy many happy miles in your new wheel estate.

Congratulations Michael and Kathy,
We picked up our 2980RL in late November and already have had 5 outings.
You will have a blast. We are, and we have been doing this since "74"

Congratulations on the new home. And good show on the practice. You are wise not to get too close to trees. Even small branches in contact with the roof can leave microscopi (well, not literally) that are impossible to find and can lead to damage. Trim the trees before you park there for a long and happy experience.

Thanks, everyone. Our first outing will be over Easter to a park just an hour away so that if we have problems, it won't be too panicy. Yes, I know, I'm an*l retentive, but it works for me.

We are both so excited, we are like the Disneyland commercial: "I'm too excited to sleep."

And, we call our new 3400RL "Nonna's Department on Wheels" because before I married the love of my life, my wife's granddaughter refered to her apartment as Nonna's Department (just 4 years old!).
