We're in Smithers, BC
After four days of driving, about six hours each day, we have arrived in Smithers, a pretty little Alpine village northwest of Prince George. We've seen some beautiful scenery but not much else on the drive down the Cassiar. We stoppped at Hyder and didn't see the bears. But we saw lots of people with big, expensive cameras. The bears are so fat and full of fish that they aren't there as much. Stewart and Hyder are very small towns but quaint. It started to rain heavily (Hyder is a tropical forrest) so we only stayed one night. The Cassiar is very bumpy but a beautiful drive. Can't say that we would recommend driving on it but we're glad that we did. The fall colors make it even more beautiful. It's not for the faint-hearted.

Northstar, we did have a couple of moments when we wondered if we had made the right decision, especially north of Lake Kinaskan Provincial Park. So we pulled off there after 150 miles of driving on bad bumps. And we were so glad that we did because we were at one of the prettiest parks that we've seen. That was also the night when our furnace failed on the 12 volt system and we woke up with a trailer that was 45 degrees inside (30 degrees outside), but it made for a good laugh. Otherwise, it's an interesting drive and we're glad that we didn't miss Smithers and the surrounding area.
