They run $10 per night in the National Forest. A little known fact is that you can park in the National Forests in non improved campsites for free. Last year, we camped for three nights along a stream five miles from an improved hotspring (CCC back in the 30's). Beautiful sunsets, snow capped peaks, cowboys herding cattle, hail on the 4th of July - it was great. Plus, did I mention the hotsprings.

Thanks, Ron, that sounnds like the kind of campsite I'd enjoy. As it was, we were just looking for an easy overnight. When I saw the crowds in Steamboat Springs, I passed on through and found the Yampa River State Park just beside the highway. It was nice for what we needed: one night on the road. I did see the listing for the campgrounds further off the road, but did not know of the access road conditions, so took the easy way out.

We are going to have the new unit generator ready. We have a 6300 generator now.Having the unit generator wired will have the plug in at the front instead of having to run a cable around to the rear. We do dry camp over night, if there are no other options, wallmart, Flying J, Turnpike rest areas, etc.

Ron, by "non-improved" do you mean no utilities or do you mean no visible road/campsite?
Thanks.

A few years ago we traveled from Texas through New Mexico and around Colorado staying when we could in national forest campgrounds. We were traveling after Labor Day and the campgrounds were open but free. No hookups available but with being self-contained we enjoyed being the only one there. We met a couple from Switzerland that were camping across the country and traveled with them through Colorado for several days.
