Inflating tires

Am I just paranoid or do others share concerns about inflating G614 tires to 110 lbs. I have spoken to people in the field and they share some concern about what can happen if a tire fails at that pressure. When I am on the road it is difficult to find a safe way to avoid possible bad consequences

G614's are made to run at or near that pressure ... pressure is part of the equation on how the tire gets its load capacity. If you have em ... run em at what they are designed for. Go by a load chart if it will ease your mind. Believe me ... if a tire blows while in motion ... it won't matter if it was inflated at 80 psi or 110 psi ... something is going to get torn up.

Have run 4 years at 108-110#, about 30,000 miles over some really rough roads, not all of them paved with no problems. Frankly, having talked to a couple of retired Goodyear engineers I would be afraid to run them with less. In my opinion, and some others, running tires at the recommended pressure protects them rather than endangers them.

My concern is less about the tire while running on the road than about personally inflating them to that capacity

I feel safer inflating our G614's to 110 psi, than I was inflating the Marathons to 80 psi, especially after seeing how bad those Marathons started failing in the tread area and sidewalls. The only dangerous time with inflating the tires is when they are being mounted and they are being inflated to seat the beads on the rim. The last time I purchased the G614's, was at a commercial tire shop, and they got the tires onto the rim, inflated them to the point they would hold air, then placed them into a cage to complete the seating process and inflated to close to the max pressure. After that process, add air as needed, although they don't loose air like many other tires.

We had a discussion on this with the weighing people at last years MOC Rally. Not only do they weigh your rig by individual tire position, they recommend what tire pressure you should use based on that weight. They recommended 110 lbs. cold tire pressure for the G614's, saying that the tires are designed to take the added pressure that builds as use warms them up.

Fear not...Put your concerns to rest. That is what they are built for, and that poses no more risk than a Marathon inflated to 80 psi.

LOL Mark N., you are being nice. I think most would feel a lot better on G614s at 110 psi than any Marathon or ST at 80 psi. That said I use Maxxis STs at 80 psi. All has been real good...so far.

If you run the G114 17.5 tires, they run at 125 PSI.

I do recommend making sure that your wheels are designed to have tires at 80#s. My wheels are designed for 80#s so I can't run anything higher unless I change my rims.

Unless you purchased your 3790RD used and the previous owner had changed the wheels, I am pretty sure your rig has 110 psi and 3750 lb rated wheels, which have been standard on Montana's for a while now. The Montana in 2015, as well as other years, offered as an option the G614's, which would have come on the same wheels as the standard ST 10 ply rated tires.

I wheel limitation should be stamped on the inside of the wheel. You will have to dismount the tire to find out. I guess a good alternative would be to simply call Keystone and give them your VIN. Their records should contain that information.
