I just upgraded to 17.5" wheels and tires for my BigSky. I got tired or running at max capacity on my 16" tires. I bought them from trailertiresandwheels.com. The service was great and the tires and wheels were shipped to my door. I went with Sailun S637 tires (215/75R17.5). I haven't had a chance to run them yet as I just did the upgrade.

Just a thought - Do you think Goodyear got tired of covering Montana damage due to blowouts, or maybe they got tired of Montana owners calling them for trade-in on G614s and decided not to sell them to Keystone anymore? Just a thought . . .

My personal thought is that Keystone just found a cheaper Supplier to replace the Marathons. Again, just my personal opinion.

Our SOB MFR originally used Marathons, but lots of problems (heavier than Monties), so 614s became the OEM, now they've switched to Westlake (Chinese made Gs) tires. I Googled them and followed the trail to the Parent Company and read pages of info on problems with their tires. So, guess you just can't win without changing to something better yourself.

Wow! This topic sure does get a lot of attention! I am definately in major worry mode now. During the purchase of our trailer, I tried to negotiate having the G614s added and the dealer just didn't cooperate. I pulled back and figured I could run the stock tires a few years with TPMS. Every time I see a new post here about tires I am second guessing that decision.

We will be leaving on a trip at the end of the month from Chicago to Jacksonville, FL. Maybe I will change them out down there... Again any help on costs you all paid would be appreciated.

One of the factors RV trailer owners fail to recognize about ST tires is their rate of degrading. It’s somewhere between 7 % -10% per year depending on how well they’re maintained and how much load they are carrying.

What that means to someone like you, with a heavy trailer and probably using every bit of available load capacity is your tires are already overloaded. After two years they could be down to 3045# of load capacity per tire. That’s way below your 6750# GAWR axles maximum load.

I would change them before I went to FL.

Thanks guys. Cathy and Dennis who did the work? A camper dealer or a tire store? Dumb question, but can I just drop the trailer at a tire store and they do he work?

I wouldn't be dropping it off and leaving. When I had my ST tires replaced with LT tires I caught the kid pulling the wheels off starting to jack up the front ones from the center of the axle. I stopped him and he said that when he asked (new employee) the bay manager how to jack up the wheels he was told to place the floor jack in the center so he could remove two wheels at once. Glad I stuck around the rig and not in the waiting room.

You may want to do some research and find a RV center or large truck tire center south of I-80 that you could get a good price from. Maybe Pontiac, or Bloomington area. Then just make an appointment and have them done as you get out of the Chicago area. May be cheaper prices. I know of a couple CG's that have open full service spots in the winter (East Peoria and Southern Illinois) which would be a little further for you on that first day, but maybe an idea for getting tires done in those areas also. Just some ideas if you can't get a decent price in or around the Chicago/Elgin area.

G6 14's on this 13 Big sky since we are high end users. Actually never had a tire issue on the 06 3400.We changed out the OEM Missions for LT Coopers then went to General LT after @ 40K miles. The Generals were a stout tire.

we took it to goodyear and i waited on it. took about an hour. talked to the worker and tipped him $20 dollars before he started the work. been tipping the mechanics etc… for a long time now and they come running when they see me pull in and i have had no bad experiences with work done by them so far. kept the marathons to use on my tav trailer for now.

I HAD good year marathons, just replaced them with Michelin Ribs , had to jump from 235 / 80 r 16 to the 235 /85/r15. . I just installed the new tires, put 10 miles on them . I will check the torque as in the manual. does anyone have any experience with these tires , pro's and cons. I will say they were pricey, tire buyer.com had the best deal at 285.00 a tire and 7.45 a tire shipping. I ordered them at 3 pm Thursday, they were at the door 9:30 Friday a.m.

I had thought the same thing until i read this thread. Then i looked at my price sheet from dealer and 1375.00 was right in line with me doing it after market, so i just called and had them change it. Peace of mind is worth it in my opinion. It's a small price to pay when you consider the WHOLE RIG rides on those tires.

One of the best places to get tire work done on your rv , is Pomps. they are nationwide. Pomps does heavy trucks, earth movers and huge tires, They also dispatch to large construction sites and emergency roadside. Its nice to leave town and have a company you can trust
