Worst Campgroiund in 30 years of RVing

Van Buren Missouri, Big Spring RV Camp. Rated 8.5/8.5/9//. An absolute dump. Full of decaying umits. Wireless did not work. Cable TV did not work. Office was not open during published operationg hours, had to move to second site because progressive showed ground fault. We had made a reservation because it was the weekend, no record. Internal roads full of potholes. I do not understand the ratings for this park, but I can tell you, STAY AWAY from this park.

Sorry about your bad luck, but thanks for the warning. Think I'll start a 'steer clear of' folder and list all the campgrounds that people warn about. RVparkreviews is a good place to get the straight scoop on campgrounds. I'm not sure I'm supposed to mention other sites here. Sorry if I offended.

I mailed SAM's about a disconnect between RVPARK reviews and SAM's ratings. Haven't heard a word from SAM's. yada yada

Just looked and surprisingly campgroundreviews.com gives it mostly 8's, 9's, & 10's with nothing less than 7. Can only wonder if something has changed, or if you have much higher expectations than most. Last review was Oct last year.

I'm sorry, but I just don't trust the reviews. The same people who are being reviewed are customers of other arms of the organizations posting the reviews. Makes you wonder if some bad reviews were screened and who exactly are the good reviewers. I know on the restaurant review sites the smart operators have their employees all write a positive review.

We have 4 good friends that work for Trailer Life (Good Sam). It is their job to go to these parks each year and inspect them. I know these people work very hard to give an honest review. They do have to call the owners and make an appointment first so it is possible that what they find when they are there is not as good as it always is. I can not speak for all of the reviewers but I sure can for the four I know so well.

True, not all reviews are unbiased, I'm sure. I read the ones on rvparkreviews and take an average. If someone is overly flattering or mean, I'll look at their other posts to see if it's a pattern. Basically, I'm looking for something that will steer me away from a particular park. I'm not hard to please, but if I get enough negatives I'll steer clear, that's all. I prefer to take advantage of a resource to help make an informed decision on where to stay in an unfamiliar area. It works for me.

I read the reviews and then always have a satellite view to see if the "resort" is beside train tracks, freeways, feed lots, etc. You can also get an idea as to the general feel of the park by looking at the crap or lack of same from a birds eye view.

I've had good luck with them but what I do is look at how many reviews the people have posted. If someone is giving it high or low marks and they have only done one or two posts I'm suspicious that its a competitor bad mouthing or the owner or employee posting good reviews.

If the person has made 153 reviews of other campgrounds.. well its a pretty safe bet that is is an unbiased review. I only use the reviews of people who've made a fair amount of reviews.

Unfortunately, that area of the state is visited by a lot of folks who like to float the rivers and "whoop it up". I'm guessing the good reviews were made by locals who were comparing it to other campgrounds in the area. We had friends who used to workkamp at Merimec Springs State Park (on the Merimec River). It was a beautiful park but when we were scheduling time to visit them they told us to avoid the week-ends due to the rowdiness of the campers.
