Refrigerator gets too cold

My Dometic RM2862 refrigerator is too cold. I am currently boondocking in Yuma and the temp says it is 28 deg in the frig, I have verified this with my IR temp gun. I find very little useful info on the net. What could be happening?

On the aluminum fins inside the fridge there is a wire attached to a slide able clip. Up is warmer and down colder. Sometimes they get moved or disconnected by mistake.

Larry, The device you are talking about is a thermistor. I may be wrong but I remember it just the opposite. I think Bingo coined the saying "Up, North, Cold, Down, South, Warm." or at least something like that. Jim

I concur - up is colder, down is warmer.

Ours has the outside controls, the slide on the fins does not have a wire attached and none in site. I had read somewhere that with outside controls that slide is not effective. The issue may be resolving itself, things seem to be working for the time being.

We may have misled you a little bit when we talk about the slide on the fins. It is not a slide that replaces the outside controls. It is a piece of white molded plastic that snaps over the fin. All Dometics I have seen have this. A thermistor on the end of a wire, which enters through the rear freezer wall is held onto the fin with this molded plastic clip. That clip, with the wire in it can be slid up and down the fin. The thermistor is what tells the control board the inside temp. of the freezer. It was explained to me that hot air rises and cold air falls, so if you want it colder in the refrig move the thermistor up so the control board thinks it is warmer in the freezer and starts making more cold. I know moving the thermistor only a few inches doesn't seem like it would matter to the thermistor but with electronics a very slight degree change does matter. I'm no expert on this and perhaps one will be along that is. They can probably explain it better. Jim
