Actual weight of 06 2955RL

I got my 06 2955RL last Nov and drove it home without weighing it.
Today I hooked her up and took her for a nice long drive. I went to two different Government Weigh scales because here in BC, they leave the scales open after hours for people to use, The scales were within 20 pounds of each other so here are the results of the scale that read the highest.

The Monty had 3/4 of a tank of fresh water, all holding tanks empty and she has at the very most 200 pounds of stuff in her so let's say 400 pounds of water and 200 pounds of stuff = 600 pounds .

The trailer axles weighed only 9105 pounds.
The Pin weight was 1940 pounds and I got this by weighing the truck empty and then with the Monty on so the total trailer weight is 11045 pounds. The 06 2955RL has a GWWR of 12140 LB so I can only put 1095 lb more in this RV. I should be OK but I would have liked more payload.

If you take the 600 pounds off , the bare weight of the Fiver is 10445 pounds. Now I do have the Splendide Washer Dryer Combo up at the front and I do have Double Windows as well as most other options so this unit is still 765 pounds heavier than the cupbourd sticker says which is probably pretty typical. If the washer weighs 150 pounds and the double pane windows add 300 pounds that is 450 pounds more and that is even getting closer to the sticker.

Anyway the front axle of the truck weighed 4475 pounds and the rear
axle weighed 5401 pounds so this already had my truck's GVWR at 9876 and this is with only me in the cab. When I get my wife and two dogs in there that will add another 250 pounds ( no I won't break that down )
So if I had an older Ford SRW 1 ton with the 9900 LB GVWR, this Montana, the lightest in the line up, would put me overweight.
My 05 F350 SRW has an 11200 GVWR so I am fine and the combined weight is only 18980 , well under my 21000 GCWR.

These Montanas are not light units and I am happy that my pickup is rated for my Monty. Take care and safe travels.

Don,
Great information as we also have a 2955RL. Ours is without the washewr dryer but I have a compressor and genberatornwith a combined weight of 100#'s. This has me me concerned enough to have it weighed. I'll post my information when I have this done.

Lots of good info Don,
We don't have any Gov scales over here, I guess I'll have to go to one of the redimix companies and weigh our T & T.
When I went to insure our truck last year, when we bought it, they want an inspection done ( every 6 months )on it, because with the high GVW (11,400 lbs) they classified it commercial. So I lowered the GVW to 4990 Kgs ( 10978 Lbs). I'll wave to look into this, I thought the book said we had a GCWR of 23000 lbs. I have the crewcab, it might add a little but not much. The tag on the truck door said not to carry (total load) more than 3650 lbs. With a hitch wight of 2270 lbs & tool box full, Fuel and ( Me, Dawn and the dog, total of another 500 lbs "heavy Dog" )We will be pretty close. Would be good advice to look into the weight of they units.
Thanks J & D

Thanks for the post, Don. This is something we all should do. I've been putting it off for too long now. Probably afraid of what I might find out. Got to get down to the scales.

John, You do have a GCWR of 23000 pounds because you have a PSD and they all come with that.

Mine is a gas V10 and because I have the 4.10 rearend I only have a 21000 GCWR.
If I would have got 4.30s, I would have the 23000 GCWR

In 05 Ford went engine specific on the GVWR, that is why your's is 11400 and mine is 11200.
Mine is a CC LB 4x4 but the diesel is heavier so Ford bumped up the GVWR on the diesel to compensate.
Too bad you have this inspection thing for commercial rated trucks. I have never heard of this before. Mine is rated commercial but I don't need to get it inspected every 6 months.

I also have a combination tool Box / fuel tank that holds 60 US gals and that was only holding about 20 gals when I weighed the truck but I still had 1300 pounds to go before I was at my GVWR so I should be fine and I am sure you will be too. Your Montana has the extra slide but that will be mostly on the trailer axles and you do have a 2000 pound larger combined rating.

Take care and have a great Easter Don

Don,
Thanks again for the info.
I thought I read on one of the posts you are going on a seven week trip? if so, I envy you guys, I don't think I've ever had over 2 weeks at one time in my life. I guess that is one of the down falls of owning your own business. Probably put it up for sale at the end of this school year and start heading south next winter . We'll start by taking a few months at a time to see how we like it. Have a safe trip and enjoy. Keep in touch.

Wrenchtraveler: We just sold a '03 2955RL. Our weights, ready for the road, empty black and gray tanks, 2/3 tank of fresh water and propane full, the trailer weighed 10,740 with 2240 of that on the pin. We pulled it with the truck in my profile that weighs 7080 full of fuel and with Jeanne & I in it with the incedentals needed for a days travel. Gave me a GCW of 17820. 20,000 is truck, in theory, limit. I am curious to see what this 3000RK is going to go to when we get it packed for the 2 month trip next week.

700 lbs over! The pin weight is within exceptable range but better balance in the orginal design would be nice. Montana designers should address the issue of where to put the axles according to the model they are putting on the frame. I’m sure that people with rear kitchens have a lighter pin weight.
I need weight in the rear and that is difficult to do. I plan to carry a ¾ tank of water to help counter the pin weight. I have not had any problems as the truck bed only goes down about 3 inches.
