Under The Shower

Under the shower in my Monty there is a black PVC pipe which sticks up around 8 inches. It has a cap on it that screws on (which is loose) with a hole in the side where one can see a spring. Does anybody know what this is for? Is the cap supposed to be loose or tightened down? Any answers will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Underneath in the storage are "basement" or inside the access panels?
We have the same model and Joe is good at plumbing but have never seen this.

There are three access panels under the shower. Open the middle one and just to the right is the PVC pipe I'm talking about.

If this is what I'm thinking it is, it is a one way vent. When the water goes down it'll pull the vent open. Then when nothing is flowing it will close to prevent sewer gases from coming in. They use them to keep from going out the roof or when ever the wall is to narrow and impossible to get the pipe thru it. As far as tight, I'm not sure but it probably only needs to be hand tight.

Here's a first thought that hit my brain... are you prepped for W/D? If you are, that could very well be your drain into the gray/black tank?

Vent - drains won't drain without them. You'll probably find one under the lavatory and kitchen sink also.
