Montana Wheel bearings

What type grease do we need to use to grease the wheel bearings on our 2004 Montana 3380??? I have e-mailed Keystone, but am waiting for reply, so hope someone on the Montana owners website can enlighten me. We took delivery of our Montana March 19, 2004. We used it for a total of about 3 months and is in storage now. Plan to use it again in January.

If you have the Ultralube system my manual calls for a NLGI Grade 2 product with a minimum dropping point of 440 degrees F.

Because of the difficulty of getting this greese locally I am going to switch Amsoil synthetic and order from their web store.

I used some greese once that was close to this spec and when I replaced it you could smell that it was burnt.

If you can get to a John Deere farm equipment dealership, they sell a grease that is actually labelled as meeting the specs. It is the only one I have been able to find locally.

Never thought of that Ontmont. may check it out. My supplier is in Lakeland FL and the hurricanes kept them from distributing the greese that I was using. Before the hurricanes I could buy it in some autoparts stores and Autozone. But it is all gone.

Ronnelly, if you have a booklet for the axles among the literature you received when you purchased your Montana it should give you the info you need. Ours did. I'd quote it here for you but we're about 2000 miles from our Montana right now.

One word of caution. If you use the grease zerks to shoot grease into the bearings, don't overdo it. You don't want it squeezing out around the seals and getting on the brake drums. When we had our brakes redone in July (two years of use including 16 months, at that time, of fulltime traveling) our dealer told me we were putting too much grease in it. None was in the drums but he said there was too much grease. I had only shot grease in there twice and then only 3 or 4 full squirts each time. He told me just one or two squirts once per year. He told me the same thing back at delivery so I guess he's serious about it.

A synthetic is not compatible with a lithium base greese. So you need to clean the bearings etc and than repack

I was able to find a lubricant that met the specs at my local Autozone. Read the packaging carefully as all lubricants do not match the temperature requirements as mentioned above.

Jack, I guess I'll have to add another thing to my Hurricane kit: Ice, generator, water, plywood and grease. Sounds kinda funny that they are out of stock. I guess it's a delivery problem and not a supply/demand issue.
