Hurricane Mathew

Well

Here we are, a deadly hurricane is bearing down on us just to the right of Naples. We are officially under a tropical storm warning and the shelters are open. We were looking at leaving but the storm is moving to the north and the safe move would be to the south and west but that's the gulf so no go there, but their not forecasting much in the area of rain here but in the area of wind here so the awning is in, the lp tanks are full, the water tank full and the fridge and the only thing we need to do is fill a couple of gas cans for the generator. I hope any one that is in the path of this gets out right now. This storm could possibly make land fall here in Florida if you look at the warning cones on the weather channel. We will be praying for all who has to deal with this worst than us and hope for no loss of life.

Take care. Stay safe.

John and Lisa

We are headed to Fort Wilderness Campground at Disney World. Leaving East Tennessee Thursday afternoon, going to stay in South Georgia Thursday night and see what the weather is for arrival on Friday to Orlando.

My b-in-law and s-in-law were meeting their grown kids at Disney World Friday, a trip they had planned for months. They are holding in SW Georgia and I haven't heard if the nieces had cancelled flights. I am pretty sure no one would want to be visiting the Orlando area Friday through Saturday according to the latest track of Matthew.

All roads are in a westward flow out of the east coast. lots of traffic jams and gas stations are out of fuel as well as the local stores are out of the essentials. If you are already in Florida I would look at going to Busch gardens instead of Disney. I would not be surprised that Disney will be closed at least this weekend. My recommendation is to AVOID coming to Florida or Georgia until the aftermath is cleaned up.

We are pulling out of our house on Lake Gaston on 26 Oct for our snowbird time in Florida. We will get hit twice I guess, Tropical Storm Warning, (not Hurricane) for here at the house, and Tropical Storm Warning at our site in Florida where I have a Shed, Golf Cart and second boat siting there. Oh well! At least the Montana is not in Florida.

Just a note here, if anyone is in harms way, we do have an RV electric hook up in our back yard. Now that doesn't guarantee there won't be a complete power outage, but if there's power, your welcome to ride it out here. We are in Inverness, 22 miles west of Ocala and do not expect too much severe weather this far over. Our phone number is 517-622-1648 if we can help anyone. Stay safe, Steve and Susie

We are under a tropical storm warning here in Naples. The rv park is completely full and people are parking in the storage area and on the parking lot up by the office. Our Walmart's have rvs from Miami parking there until the storm is gone. the I-75 corridor from Miami is busy and it feels like it snowbird season here right now. Thank you so much for the invite. It looks like it seems south and west are the place to be at least for now.

Quick question - pull slides in or keep them out?? We're hunkered down in Statesboro, GA and expecting 40 to 60 mph winds. ----- Thanks

All campgrounds in South Georgia are full. Fort Wilderness is closed and evacuated until Sunday.

UPDATE:Here in Naples only a strong breeze with showers. Nothing to much to report there. I-75 north out of Miami is very busy, lots of people here in town. NO HOTEL ROOMS AVAILABLE. ALL RV PARKS FULL.If you need a spot to park they are just staying in any open parking lot they can find. The shelters are open.

Good news for those of us in SW Florida tonight (Ft. Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, etc.) only a Tropical Storm Watch, not a warning. Plus looks like our winds will max out at 30mph with possible higher gusts. By 2am they think it will be very close to shore directly across from Lake O. This is bad news for Phil where he lives and I hope he is long gone. Sustained winds close to where he lives will be around 50mph by 8pm and could reach 70mph or more by morning. I would guess if sustained winds are close to 70mph then there would be gusts well over 80.

We are keeping both residents and first responders in our thoughts tonight.

Sounds like everyone weathered the storm pretty well. We had some rain, not anything too heavy, little windy, again nothing serious and above all, did not lose power. The good Lord was watching over everyone it seems. However, we are in Florida and weather is subject to change at any time, so hang on to our phone number in case its needed in the future, just call and tell us your a MOC member, and need a place to park. Happy Trails, Steve and Susie

Bad day in NC. The Fayetteville area has had a reported 14+ inches of rain since this storm started. We have at least eight trees down in the yard and others in the area are fairing worse. The camper is on the coast and don't know how it has fared. Our prayers go out to all who have been or will be involved in this storm's path.

Glad Matthew has gone from Georgia. In Statesboro, we had Tropical Storm winds with gusts to 50 plus and lots of rain, and all is well.
