HANG IT FROM THE KINGPIN??????? I believe I have the answer. Went to Home Depot and purchased 2 plastic folding sawhorses and a piece of 3/4" plywood. I back my truck to where I want to store the hitch, open up the sawhorses, lay the plywood on top. Undo the hitch and slide it on to the plywood and drive away. Cover it if outside for protection from the weather. Your truck bed is about the same height of the plywood. Save the back and save the kingpin. Been doing it that way for 5 yrs now. Oh yes, hanging it from the kingpin will stain and maybe weaken the pin. I have seen what a broken kingpin looks like on the flight deck after they break.

I like the winch set-up. Even though I am 48, it still is a pain to have to hoist that 5th wheel hitch up onto the tailgate and then position it on the rails.

If you lift it by hoisting it on the rafters, be sure to remember that the garage door moves across the first half of the garage. Don't ask me how I know that.

I got lazy this last time and used the bucket of my Kabota tractor to lift it off. I have not reinstalled it yet so I will see how easy that is when I get to it. I have a Reese 20K hitch and used to separate the top from the bottom and that made it easier than trying to do the whole unit at one time.
