Williamsburg Va campgrounds

Is anyone familiar with any campgrounds in or very near Williamsburg Va. We are trying to plan a trip there but know absolutely nothing about camping facilities in the area. Any recommendations appreciated. This includes campgrounds to stay away from also.

Dennis,
There are several good choices in Williamsburg and Jamestown area. You may want to avoid the passport park Anvil Campground because it is beside a busy railroad track.
If you have time you may want to try these sites.

www.virginia.org with this you can order a map and camping directory

Have a great trip.

Stay away from the KOA's as there are allot of trees lining the roads. The on and only time I went there I saw a guy rip of the end cap to his 5th because he got to close to a tree.

Try this one. We stayed at several campgrounds in the area when we lived in northern Virginia, and liked this one the best. Agree on the comments concerning the trees at the KOA. Plus sites are too close together and it was pretty expensive. American Heritage is close to all the tourist sites. http://www.americanheritagervpark.com/

While there, try a pizza from the Jamestown Pie Company (http://www.buyapie.com/). While they do make wonderful pecan pies, their gourmet pizzas are wonderful! Have one for us!

If I were going back to that area which I hope to sometime, I would definitely stay at http://www.americanheritagervpark.com/

We give our thumbs up for this one!

We spent a month at American Heritage RV Park about a year ago and would do so again. Wifi was not free, though. I agree with the comments about Anvil. I've also read some pretty bad reviews about that park.

we also agree American heritage campgrounds is a good place to stay. The only downside was that some of the sites were not level and there were some trees that affect satellite reception. But we would stay there again.

I think the best place to stay is in the Newport News City Park, 20 minutes from Williamsburg. It is quiet clean and hassle free. There phone number is 1-800-203-8322. They have water, electric hookups, laundry and hiking and bike trails. It is on Jefferson HWY (Rt. 60) easy exit of I-64. Williamsburg is also off of 60 & I-64 as well as Bush Gardens.Check out their website.

We have always gone to Newport News City Park. Very large spaces, decent facilities if you can do without the sewer connection. B loop has 50 amp service.
