mattress defects
Has anyone had problems with the mattresses? When we where on vacation last week I went to pull the blankets up and heard a rip in checking it out a piece of steel about the size of a pencil in diamater and about 10 inches long was sticking out of the mattress. We have a 2006 2955RK it seems to me that this shouldn't have happened and should be under warranty. Just checking to see if any one else has had problems?

Had an 04 2955RL and now an 07 3485SA and had no problems with either mattress
I do know there are many individuals that have changed them for new mattress or have added the memory foam. I weigh over 300 pounds and found the both original mattresses plenty comfortable.

Fist thing we did is put memory foam on our mattress, I could feel every spring in it. After a couple of more weeks we threw it in the dumpster and bought a real mattress. The factory one is really junk. In this case you get way Montana paid for, junk.

It is not bad for a mattress filled with straw.. we donated ours to good will before we ever slept on it.

Ok so since everyone seems to have bought new mattress, what size did you get for a King Size. We measured our king size mattress that came with the Montana and it looks to be a strange size. Will a regular king size mattress fit the space or did you down size with a queen? Spoke with the extended warranty people and the dealer their not going to cover it.

I guess we've been lucky like Glenn. We bought our 2000 Montana previously enjoyed, and the mattress was very comfortable - we did add a foam topper. The mattress in the 2006 3600RE is also very comfy and has the foam topper we used in the 2000. With all the negative comments about Montana mattresses we thought maybe we'd have to have one made for the 3600, but that hasn't been the case. To answer your specific question, we've not had the problem you mention, but I'd definitely check on the warranty issue.

We have found this very interesting. We have a sleep number at home, a second one at a mobile home we have. We love the one in our stick house, a king...so so for the queen at the mobile. We have been very happy with the first 2 trips in the RV....the mattress that came with our 3400.
We'll see how it holds up but so far, it's fine!

I still have the standard matress from the factory. No problems so far. I did add memory foam topper to the matress until I decide if I want to replace it.

Debbie, does yours have the rounded corner that goes up against the vanity?
If not, then you may have the shorter king. I believe the California King would work as a replacement. Our current Montana has the standard Queen, not the shortie. Our prior Montana had the short queen. We found the mattress stores, like Mattress Factory and those kinds of stores, will order you a mattress cut to whatever length you want. We were not charged any extra. So go to your mattress store armed with the measurements you want. By the way, in our 2003 we found we could add two inches to the OEM mattress length and had no trouble with the mattress when the slide was retracted. If you need more length, close the slide and do some measuring.

The mattress has the rounded corners that go up against the vanity. I just want to make sure that when the slide comes in there is no problem. The width could also be a problem being that we have two very small selves next to the bed. So we have to watch the width too.
Hopefully we will be able to find a mattress.

We have a 2002 2955RL with the original matress and find it just fine. Not exactly like our temperpedic in the stick house but fine for our summer trips. Knock on wood, it is still in good shape without the problem you found with yours.

Debbie,
We have a 2980RL which is real similar to your rig. The first thing we did is give the factory king mattress to a deserving soul. We then cut the king-sized plywood to fit our queen-sized 'sleep number' bed. It sure is nice having the extra room around the bed especially at the closet.
There is nothing like sleeping on air...

We put a standard queen in our 03 Montana and the slideout still closes just fine, although it does hit the dresser.

I think that corner is rounded so the slide can fully retract without the mattress being a problem. If you replace it with a king without that rounded corner, you may have a problem when you close the slide. Just something to check into.
